Let's Round Off Funny Girl Cast!

Would love to see Randy Graff as Rosie (previously I had wanted Cyndi Lauper but am not sure she's the right Mama for Lauren's Fanny).

Rory O'Malley as Eddie!!!

Maybe Lauren's tall, very sexy Six Feet Under badass boyfriend Eric Balfour as Nick?

Tony Yazbeck as Nick, Andrea Martin as Rosie

Seconding Andrea Martin as Rosie.
Brian d'Arcy James as Nick?

Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Aaron Lazar would be terrific. Regarding Balfour, though it doesn't diminish his looks, he does have a prominent nose. Not sure how that would impact Fanny's nose references.

You're right. That prominent (and very hot!) schnoz of his might upstage and unbalance the evening's star schnoz, already a challenge in this production.

Wonder if Sher might consider Andrew Samonsky, his second Cable? Certainly a hunk but perhaps not quite right.

D'arcy James certainly has the slick, dark and handsome maturity for the role.

Andrea Martin, of course! But I'm still wild about Randy in the part, she has a warm Kay Medfordish sanity to her.

I definitely wasn't impressed with Samonsky's vocals or acting (read: pouting) abilities in SOUTH PACIFIC. And he seems a little too white bread to be right for Nicky, IMO.

Andrea Martin is perfect and is well known.
Nick is harder, he should look like Matt Risch and have Brian D'Arcey's chops and charm.
Eddie is a dancing/singing role, Yazbeck could do that role, or Michael Beresee.

Is Jason Danieley too old for Nick? I'd love to see him in the role.
I think Graff would be great as Rose, but Andrea Martin does seem like the perfect choice. Sher really surprised with what turned out to be a brilliant decision with the casting of Bloody Mary in SOUTH PACIFIC, wonder if he has any surprises up his sleeve (not that Ambrose wasn't surprising enough).

Someone on ATC recommended Faith Prince as Rosie, which I think might be a better match for Ambrose's Fanny than Martin.

Danieley just turned 40, I believe, and he can read younger. He's right in line in age with Sydney Chaplin (thirty-eight) and Omar Shariff (36). I think he's an interesting choice for Nicky.

Regarding Samonsky, my immediate impression would be that he'd correct Fanny - "It's buttER, not buttAH".

Does it really matter who plays Nick Arnstein, the part being so boring and poorly written? Oh, I suppose he should be tall, dark and handsome so that there is some believability to Fanny's continuous infatuation with him zzzzzzz. All scenes perk up when Arnstein is not in them.

On another topic, I would love to see the torch song "My Man" interpolated into Jule Styne's wonderful score. That song, at the end of the movie, was for me the only highlight of a hugely disappointing film.

I like the idea of Danieley.

I actually liked Samonsky's Cable and preferred his to Morrison's. Although I'm more than willing to concede this was in large measure to my finding Samonsky off the charts hot. But, more importantly, you are probably right that he is way too whitebread.

And speaking of off the charts hot. Does Lee Pace sing?

No reason Nick can't be significantly older than Fanny. In reality he was about twelve years older (though the age difference is inconsequential in the show, albeit Nick should have a sophisticated, worldly magnetism to Fanny).

Also in reality, Nick was Fanny's second husband.

I didn't like either Morrison or Samonsky as Cable, but I will concede that the latter is quite attractive. Speaking of Lt. Cables, Bart Sher's original choice Steven Pasquale could make a fantastic Nick vocally--as well as visually. I don't know if Lee Pace sings but he does cut a dashing figure.

On Gypsy's note, what does everyone think about placing some of the changes for the score from the movie into the show?

"On Gypsy's note, what does everyone think about placing some of the changes for the score from the movie into the show?"

That topic is being discussed on the other ("It's Official") thread.

Pasquale might be the best fit, but might it be too awkward since Benanti was supposedly auditioned but not chosen?

The only singing I've heard Lee Pace do was that little bit of "If I Didn't Care" from Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. It was passable but nothing great.

I would really hope that wasn't something that bothered him enough to not take a role.

Cheyenne Jackson is pretty enough - but is his voice wrong for Nick?
And if age is not a problem, can Terrence Mann be lured? Or Nathan Gunn? Gunn could make his real Broadway debut - except he'd probably have to take a pay cut to do the show.

I thought it was established that Benanti never actually auditioned. She was just on Sher's radar as a possibility for a while. Can someone confirm this?

Gunn will never do an extended run of anything in New York (or anywhere, really). His family is based in Illinois and he has said many times that he takes the bare minimum engagements he has to so as not to be away from them for extended periods of time. This is one of the name reasons why he's made the Lyric his de-facto home theatre.

Terrence Mann is too old. I mean, he's 60. Gunn, on the other hand, would be just about perfect.

It's not a prominent role, but Mann could work as Ziegfeld.

IMHO Nick can't be all THAT much older than Fanny (referring to Mann's generation, not Danieley's), especially for today's audiences.

But speaking of older, would Jessica Walter or Leslie Ann Warren be out of the question for Rosie? Just throwing it out there.

Brian d'Arcy James, Marc Kudisch and Aaron Lazar are my top three choices for Nick Arnstein, in that order.
