Everyday- Up the ladder to the roof(will she get to perform?)
I wish, but I doubt it.
I hope FINIAN'S and RAGTIME are allowed to do two FULL numbers. And that they're not like a part of a crappy medley.
And if PROMISES does perform, they should do the duet between Hayes & Finneran. Which was the only real musical number in the show that fully came to life, thanks to the two of them.
do you think the producers of Finian's and Ragtime will pay to perform even if they have the chance? airtime don't come cheap.

I think that Ragtime and Finian's probably won't perform. Last year, Pal Joey only performed for about 30 seconds in the opening. If they don't perform, I would hope for their slots to go to Sondheim on Sondheim and Everyday Rapture. Or, better yet, let the plays perform scenes. The Tony's always seem like they favor the musicals over the plays.
I would like to see A Little Night Music do A Weekend in the Country, but I think they'll probably do The Glamorous Life or Send in the Clowns. I don't think those two songs would work well as a medley, seeing how far apart in the show they are. I don't think Send in the Clowns really works well in a medley with any song from the show because it is such a context piece. Does anybody know what the show performed back in '73 on the Tony's?

Best case scenario is if they do another medley like last year, with all the shows (nominated or not).
My favourite was last year. One of my least was watching Rosie. It was embarrassing. She was wearing a house coat, it was not funny and she can't sing. Anyway..i bet GLEE opens or closes.
I doubt GLEE will perform. The Tonys are on CBS, GLEE is on FOX.
I don't forsee any scenario where A Little Night Music doesn't showcase its two stars in their number. The only number that does that is The Glamorous Life, so that's the obvious choice. Angela singing Liaisons would sell about two tickets. Medleys never work well on the Tony broadcast, especially medleys of Sondheim shows (see the ITW and Sweeney Todd revivals).
I would love nothing more than to see Ragtime perform a fully-staged number, but its not going to happen. The show lost its entire investment and I can't imagine McCollum forking over the dough to do it (or that they'd even ask him). The best we can hope for with Ragtime and Finian is for Noll and Baldwin to sing a bit of Back to Before and Glocca Mora, respectively. For all we know, though, none of the closed shows will perform, and instead the touring company of Grease will do Summer Nights.
[cliche]"Send in the Clowns" is almost as big a star a CZJ[/cliche]. Whether in a medley or alone, I'm sure it will be performed. (We shall see).
yeah I know but there are performers on shows who go to other network' specials though. there is stronghold on GLEE. what was this about them not even being in the Macy's parade or something? I just thought with some being on Broadway before they may do it for ratings.

Hmm...I think that "I Am What I Am" performed by Kelsey (although no one beats George Hearn) is pretty definite. Also, as cliche as "Send In The Clowns" is? It's gonna be done.

Why would Kelsey sing I Am What I Am? He doesn't sing it in the show; Doug Hodge does.
I just think "Glamorous Life" would be so dull on the Tony Awards. If they're going to showcase the nominated talent, then they absolutely shouldn't do that song since it's horrendously performed by Catherine in the show. I guess "Liaisons" wouldn't really work well at the Tonys either, but "Send in the Clowns" would. "Weekend" would and so would the "Night Waltz" in some capacity. It's always tough to choose from Sondheim shows; it's hard to pull anything out of context.

Closed shows have been represented. In 1979 Dorothy Loudon did a solo of "50 %" from the closed BALLROOM and in 1987 Judy Kuhn and Dick Latessa did the title song from RAGS. That said, I can't see theme gathering the entire casts of either RAGTIME or FINIAN'S...best we might get is a solo or duet or maybe a montage taken from the press rolls.
Why do you think "Glamourous Life" would be dull? Is it not well staged and choreographed in this production? I suppose a montage from NIGHT MUSIC would be best to get a bit of "Clowns" in there and end with the finale of "Weekend."
A medley from LA CAGE might be most effective too but not "WE Are what we Are/I Am What I Am" because that is what they did in 1984. I agree "Best of Times" is the show's best number, but maybe re-routine it so both stars get to take part. (Numbers have been re-routined for the awards before: Look at THE FULL MONTY on the 2001 Tonys. And look at teh completely new version of "Love Changes Everything" from ASPECTS OF LOVE in 1990.)
Consider this: The Tony Award telecast has 12 10 1/2-minute segments. Segment 1 -Opening number and first two awards
Segments 2 thru 11 have two or three awards plus a scene or number from a nominated play or musical. The final segment has the final award(s) and a closing number. I would hope they do the right thing and get the plays in there though I can only recall a few scenes excerpted from plays that ever really worked. (Top of the list is Maggie Smith and Margaret Tyzack from LETTUCE AND LOVAGE in 1990.)But the plays deserve more than just a few lines. They need a contextual scene.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

She's gonna do Send in the Clowns.
And the closed shows won't perform, as much as I'd like them to.
Well, let's hope Catherine remembers her lyrics, pronounces words, and doesn't snort her way through the melody if she performs "Glamorous Life." Definitely the worst of all her songs.

Yeah, sorry about that. That's what I get for typing at midnight and having no caffeine.
Ragtime would probably do Back to Before. They're not going to drag the whole cast back and Christiane Noll will be there anyway.
Considering the number of nominations the show received, it would be strange for them not to have some kind representation on the broadcast, closed or not. Especially since in recent years, shows that weren't even nominated for the major awards were given the chance to perform. And if that awful tour cast of Mamma Mia was worth the airtime, so is a 7-time Tony nominated production.
The producers of RAGTIME asked the cast if they were able and available to perform at the Tony telecast.
Having seen Night Music with Catherine 4 out 5 times, she never once missed a lyric, and that includes the first preview. And I know just about all of Desiree's lyrics by heart.
Angela did mess up lyrics two times that I saw her. The other times she was absolutely flawless.

It would be great to have Ragtime perform. I'm sad that I never got to see the revival and I randomly walked past the Neil Simon and saw the marquees up a month ago, which was sad. (I don't know NY at ALL so it was a complete surprise - I had no idea they still left them up or where the theatre was etc..)
But don't producers actually pay for staging etc.. (tens of thousands)? So what is in it for them to pay for a performance? Unless they genuinely just want the performance to showcase what they 'did'.

I know it's a bit of a stretch, but Avenue Q should perform and have someone make a joke that going to New World Stages was a "step backwards."
qolbinau, I was just in the City yesterday. The marquee is still up and it makes me sad.
ljay, apparently as of late, I've heard Catherine has been quite inconsistent. One out of every three shows she apparently drops lines and/or is a mess onstage. Not the best time to be doing that, Miss Desiree.
By the way, her first verse of "Glamorous Life" when I saw it went as so:
"Darling, I waegoihsdglj
and
Darling, I ewgiuhsdfkjasdf"
etc.
The next few verses didn't get any better. At one point, she repeated a line and then just stopped singing. She couldn't get her lines out during some of her scenes too. She slurred her words so much that she had to repeat certain words for Alexander's and the audience's sake because they were so unintelligible.

Performers, especially consummate professionals, don't suddenly forget the lyrics they sing or lines they say 8 times a week. That makes no sense.
I can't imagine, and I don't believe that CZJ has done that.
I wouldn't make up what I witnessed. I went with three friends who witnessed the same performance and a friend of mine performed in the show that day. It's a shame because underneath all of the flubs, I could see she had glimpses of a wonderful grasp of the character, but it wasn't quite there yet.
