Hi everyone!
Im currently looking for a musical or play (peferbably a musical) for my highschool. We’ve done Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, Aladdin, and Little Women in the past just to name a few shows. Unfourtanately a lot of theater kids are leaving the school, so we only have a few left for this upcoming year. Im assuming we will have 15-25 people at the most if new people audition. In fiddler we had 27 people but out of that 13 people are leaving. We dont have a lot of guys so the show would need to be mostly girls. Also we are a christian school so we cant do anything too outrageous. Right now I’m thinking about Rogers and Hammersteins Cinderella just to show you where my mindset it at. Please help me lol!!!
Thanks in advance!

I think Cinderella is a great idea. R&H currently offers three versions for licensing. I'd recommend either the original version which more closely resembles the premiere Julie Andrews broadcast version or the Enchanted Edition which is modeled after the 1997 television version with Brandy and Whitney Houston and toured in the early 2000s with Eartha Kitt as the Fairy Godmother. (Though changes have since been made to this libretto and it is no longer the exact version that toured.) I think both of those versions would probably be more high school friendly and easier to stage than the recent Broadway adaptation which includes even more male characters, more side plots, more interpolated Rodgers and Hammerstein songs, and a much longer running time than the other two versions.

Since you mentioned Aladdin, does your school generally perform junior versions of shows? Seussical is always a good selection for more conservative school groups and doesn't require a ton of males. Have you looked at Little Women? You'er a good man charlie Brown is a smaller cast musical to consider. If you are doing junior shows, have you looked at Dear Edwina? Teens I know who have done it, LOVE the show. The licensing rights for Freaky Friday are being released next month. It's a terrific show for high school performers and doesn't require TONS of guys.

^They already did Little Women though.
I also first thought about You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown but decided against suggesting it since 4 out of the 6 main characters are male (3 if you gender-bend Snoopy). I guess it could work since they did say there were a couple of guys in their group and the optional characters are mostly female (Peppermint Patty, Marcie, and Woodstock, for example).
