We got out to Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn about 9:30 and were about 60th or so in line. When I picked up my vouchers, there was a stack left maybe a half-inch thick or a bit less. Another friend of mine had gotten there at eight and was about 10th in line.

It was a very pleasant place to wait. We were in the shade for most of the time, and there are bathrooms inside the library. Also, the farmers' market is right across the street.

I spoke to a Public worker afterward and she said that quite a few people did not get vouchers. So Brooklyn has become a popular distribution site. It used to be a well-kept secret. Next year, on to Staten Island!

"So you don't have to impress us all with references to Foucault, Derrida, et al. in every show you write."

All those cool kids in backwards baseball caps talking about The History of Sexuality getting to you?

Yes, one might say they are jejune.

"All those cool kids in backwards baseball caps talking about The History of Sexuality getting to you?"

It's too recent-old to be cool, and not old-old enough to be ironic-cool-again, isn't it?

It's just sort of sitting in that conformist-poser-pretending-to-be-current-Limbo at this juncture, perhaps?

Would you not think that those people are superficial and simplistic?

I saw the show Sat. night & had a pretty open attitude about it. Some things really cracked me up, other moments cracked up others around me. No touching drama. I did get the feeling that they pulled out all stops with this. The music gave it fresh quirkiness, the book gave it depth & gravity. I esp. liked a moment where the latin character was trying out some of his lyrics in rehearsal with the band & then when he sided his trivial nonsense with some rich poetry the band were all like "nah - no good." Some lyrics are stupid & even vulgar. When I heard "gook" I was like "this is such a bad lyric it must rhyme with something later & sure enough "book' appeared. The 2 professor characters brought some good comedy but by the time we heard that they had one more closing offering - I guess I wasn't ultimately with them because it felt like too much. Hopefully the show has been tightened & trimmed up because it was a long haul with no intermission. 6 of the songs can be heard here: http://soundcloud.com/thepublictheater

Okay I'll admit it. I don't know Love's Labour's Lost at all. Will I be totally lost if I see this musical version? And if someone can say what time the show is letting out, that would be great.

You shouldn't be lost. It's a... modestly faithful adaptation.

It runs about 1:40-50. You'd be getting out around 10:30, including walk time out of the park.

I was there. Got there around 10 and gchris had everything right. Part of me did miss being outside in the park since it was such a nice day but this was still a very pleasurable and simple experience.

Now on to the guessing game of when I should go redeem these vouchers.

I don't think it matters much unless you need for a large group to sit together. That said, I think arriving on or close to 4:30 would be best. I got to the Delacorte pretty early but still ended up sitting in Section O. However, the view was fine from there, so no complaints.

Not sure how it works regarding trading in vouchers to get your tickets, but when I was handed out tickets at the line in the park, they said that where you were in line had nothing to do with where you sat (those in the back could get better tickets than those in front) and the tickets were handed out randomly. I was about 70th in line and was in the last row (although, in one of the center sections).

Does it really matter what time you redeem vouchers? I have never done the wait on line voucher thing. only the online thing last year and we got premo seat last year.

Great seats at 7:00pm. I really enjoyed it except for the stupid, rude, bitch in front of me who kept texting during the show.
Some very nice surprises. Not sure if they were supposed to be "in" jokes but, I found some of the casting funny IE Daniel Breaker and Rebecca Naomi Jones (who is GROSSLY under used IMHO). I will explain if you PM I don't wish to post spoilers. Hoping to catch it one more time before it closes. Great job.

After seeing this last night I am baffled at everyone's dislike for it. Well not everyone, obviously I would expect After Eight to hate it with vitriol. I absolutely LOVED it. Granted I'm not that familiar with the play itself (the horrible Kenneth Branagh movie was enough for me) so maybe that's why I enjoyed it because I don't have a point of comparison. I dare say that I might have enjoyed this more than BBAJ (which says a lot!) even though both did tend to drag on towards the end.

The whole cast was phenomenal. I'm hard pressed to pick the standouts but obviously Rebecca (although I wish she'd been given more to do) and Colin Donnell's wifebeater were doing it for me the most. Patti Murin has never really done it for me but I very much enjoyed her as soon as she opened her mouth. She needs to watch out being typecast as the bubbly blonde though. And of course Rachel Dratch and Jeff Hiller KILLED it as the professors which I didn't get the point of but I really didn't care.

I would also like to call out the unbelievably talented Justin Levine who I've been in love with since BBAJ. I'm glad that he got a little stage time since he's always busy working his magic as the Musical Director for some of the best and most original theatre I've seen in years. Everything from MURDER BALLAD to HERE LIES LOVES. He does have some pasty ass legs though.

In terms of the vouchers, I guess it really is a crap shoot because I got there right before 7:30 and didn't have the best seats. I was seated near Alex Timbers though so I guess something thought they weren't too bad. He was feverishly scribbling during all the mic shortages (of which there were a few). One thing I wished I had the opportunity to tell him was that there needs to be a pause after "Love's a Gun" because Rebecca is KILLING it up there and deserves the recognition others are getting with inferior songs. Colin can wait a beat to come out of the lodge for that.

All in all, I thought it was a wonderful evening of theatre and a perfect night for it.

Last night seems to have been the night for bad audience behavior. I went on standby and got in. The mic shortages were really noticeable.

I must say I'm rather mixed on it (probably will try to get back later in the run). There were things I liked. It was a pleasant enough piece and the weather was really nice.
I love Patti Murin-and want someone to write a role for her. She's funny and has quite a set of pipes. I liked the chemistry between Rachel Dratch and Jeff Hiller. I do wish there was a little more of a book. Overall, it was definitely fun. I think it will get better as the run goes on.

I had an amateur photographer two seats down who was really awful-and the staff did nothing about it until the end. (The person next to me and I kept looking at her. If you saw the flash-that was who it was. I don't know who she thought she was fooling.)

Haha I totally saw that, dreaming. You were sitting by the Gate 1 side almost to the top. A man and his son by me were texting about 30 mins into the show wanting to tell the wife where they was so she could sit with them, I guess. He wouldn't stop even when the usher reprimanded him.
