I would also like to say that Jim Walton gave a great performance in the small role of Harry the Horse. At least you could tell he had done his homework and his character had some kind of personality!
Selya got out pretty quickly, but he couldn't have been nicer after Damn Yankees this summer.
WAT you are right in giving mention to Walton. He did inject a nice bit of personality into his character.

This thread makes me so excited! I will hopefully be seeing the show tonight. I'm hoping they don't sell out of student rush tickets by 4ish.
I HATE to ask stage door questions, but did Lauren come out through the lobby doors? Or did they do kind of what they did at the end or RENT and have them come out the side doors of the theatre? I have been a fan of hers for a ridiculously long time and would love to meet her.
Hey, do you think they'll accept a high school ID for student rush? Or should I ask my aunt who is taking me to bring along her ID from a college where she's getting her PhD?
Also, in regards to TKTS, how cheap can you usually buy tickets for? And would they be easily available for Saturday the 14th?
I really want to see this show!

Yes, unless they're Legally Blonde they will accept high school IDs for student rush.
TKTS tickets are usually 50% off so they usually come out to about $56.50. There's no way to predict exactly which days they will be on there for, though.
Kind of odd that they put him in a fat suit. I know there's at least one line that specifically refers to Nicely-Nicely as being fat, but they've changed it before (for Walter Bobbie).
WAT I agree with you... there are inherent problems if we are talking about Testa and the sets after the performance...
but she was amazing!
Mary Testa reminded me of what Jackie Hoffman did in Hairspray as Prudy Pingleton/Gym teacher/etc.
From my seats in orch row F on the side, I couldn't see half of the screen in the back and part of the back right of the stage. It wasn't as bad as the ones on the sides in the rows in front of me though, some of those seats had truly awful views.

Do you think they sell the better partial view seats first? Or do they sell the first few rows first? I'm also trying to decide if I should get a rush seat or just spend $50 on a rear mezz seat with a more centered view. Any advice?
I'm not sure with the partial view seats, but I would assume after seeing it last night and being on the far right side with the row empty except for us, the box office works their way in when selling rush tickets (otherwise they can sell the closer seats for $76.50 and not $26.50).
I enjoyed the production up close because we were able to move over to the empty seats, but the next time I see it, I would rather be in the front mezzanine, or the more cost effective rear mezzanine. Having seen RENT from the front row and the last row of the house, this production's scenic design can be appreciated much more from a distance.

Got two rush tickets for tonight. If they're as horrible as people say, hopefully we'll be able to move over a bit.
Someone mentioned that they had no idea why Des was the one to direct this classic musical---and the answer to that is simple...all of the producers (or the majority) are his friends from College. And with most being behind Jersey Boys, it was just like ask old buddies a favor..."Hey, I want to do Guys and Dolls, wanna to produce it?"---"Sure!" and there you go...

That may be true, but he would be a great friend to have! Des is a genius. His direction and vision for this piece was incredible. I am sure he was the top choice anyways... and its only first preview!
I loved how he brought the story back to the original time period that Damon Runyan had intended. Setting it when the stories actually took place makes it more relevant to today.
This is truly a wonderful salute to NYC, and it is going to be the hot show for 2009! I smell Tony's.
Agree...I think Des is a genius too..does great work....was just saying!

Are the rear mezz seats good at the Nederlander? Or should I hop on over to TKTS? What are the chances of seats being available there for Saturday night?

For a large house, the Nederlander is very intimate. Rear mezz is great.
Perhaps once construction is finished the stage door will be more organized. Perhaps, due to work inside the theatre, that door is not available for use ATM.
"Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat" from the '92 revival is on one of the "Broadway's Lost Treasures" DVDs. Forget which one off the top of my head. I'll check when I get home

Thanks for the reviews.
I could not imagine Tituss as Nicely and I agree with the fat actor comment.
Glenn Fisher? Was he good. I really liked him in SA.
Are the rush seats really that bad? I was so excited but now I'm not so sure.

Sincere thanks for the comments about those of us who have "sensitive retinas". I endured the discomfort the strobes in GYPSY caused me because it was a brief sequence and it was, well...GYPSY.
I think I'll sit out this GUYS AND DOLLS.
Again, I truly appreciate the warning.
