Posted: 7/7/09 at 11:08amNow that the Little Mermaid is closing, what's replacing it at the Lunt-Fontanne? I've heard that Disney can't afford to put up another musical right now (although I'm still praying for a Hunchback of Notre Dame musical), so does anyone know what's going up instead?

Posted: 7/7/09 at 11:10amI think most people are thinking it'll feature a limited engagement of WHITE CHRISTMAS followed by THE ADDAMS FAMILY.

The Addams Family is definite, given their group sales set up.
There was a rumor on another thread that Disney was going to bring back Beauty and the Beast for a limited holiday engagement, with a special Christmas number added.

I'm sure "As Long as There's Christmas" could be added without too much trouble.

So I'd much rather read than post, but here's the thing.
A. If 9 to 5 doesn't make it through the fall and closes, White Christmas will be right back in the Marquis. It would make no sense for it to go to a new theater if it's previous home is available.
B. The group sales for Adams Family claiming a mezz to go to row N do not necessarily mean the Lunt. Rows are added and removed as needed for new shows. There were added seats for Mermaid, changing what the last row was in the orch. What's to say that seats won't be added or removed to another house for Addams Family. Anything is possible, so just wait for an actual announcement and not the latest rumor mill.

They didn't add a row for The Little Mermaid...depending on whether or not the size of the orchestra pit is adjustable, the row, if one was added, would be added to the front...and they don't re-letter the rows. The Lunt had a row U for Beauty and the Beast. Also, they are selling tickets for Front Mezzanine and Mezzanine Rows A-N. Since they sell "Front Mezzanine" at a higher price than Mezzanine Rows A-N, You can eliminate houses that have single-designated Mezzanines. Eliminate houses with solid bookings, and you get only the Lunt.

Except that it wasn't written by Alan Menken.

True, but its Disney, and its really the only song from the film makes sense to add for a holiday addition. Plus, its the only song from the film that deals with Christmas anyways!

There are absolutely no plans for a Beauty return.
The White Christmas seems more possible, but that I don't know for certain.

Posted: 7/7/09 at 10:40pmOther posters are saying that it is likely to happen. I would make sense that the new BatB tour is not going out until Feb. 2010. Being that it is a completely new design(sets, costumes, & lights) for ONLY a tour seems kind of unlikely.

There will be an ENCORES-like Actor's Fund Benefit of
The musical of THE VISIT which was the innagural play presented in the theatre named after two Theatre Legends starring Rivera and Hearn and New York will finally see the Beauty of this show.
I can dream, right?
