SO EXCITED FOR THIS RECORDING NOW. I love it when producers are invested in producing a quality recording like this, not just doing what is most easily affordable.

Oh my gosh, this is going to be amazing. I'm so excited for the acrobat stories, the Overture, Revolting Children (The Broadway cast does this song so much better than the London), Chokey Chant (I didn't think this would make it. Pleasant surprise!) Jack Broderick, and the Doctor's (Is it John Arthur Green I'm thinking of?) riffing in Miracle. So after all that, I do believe it's worth the new recording.

^Yep, John Arthur Greene!

My ideal would be to have one track of Naughty with all four girls (split up like their performance on Kelly and Michael/the West End Matildas at the Oliviers), then have four "bonus" tracks of each girl singing it alone. Buuut, I don't see that actually happening.

ETA: Do we think they'll include the dialogue in Miracle? I'd love to hear that, but the dialogue on the OCR is a little bit lengthy for my taste... Updated On: 9/10/13 at 08:46 PM

I'm a bit disappointed that there are no Minchin tracks or bonuses- maybe a Barnes and Noble exclusive?

He has performed a "big band" style version of Naughty at numerous events.

I haven't sen a lot of the Broadway Records albums in stores like B&N, but maybe with Yellow Sound label attached it might be. If there would be bonus tracks, they'd be on iTunes especially with a digital release available a month before the CD is available nationwide.

Saw the show tonight for the first time, loved it. (If you get to Chris Hoch as Craig is still out, do it. He's fabulous.) I'm a little confused on who plays The Escapologist in the show. Ben Thompson is back in the show, but I saw Richard H. Blake listed in the Playbill. Was Richard subbing or is Ben subbing?

I believe that Ben Thompson is back playing The Escapologist. Here's a Tweet that seems to confirm:

Anyone else find it weird that they are calling them "Acrobat Stories"? As opposed to "Acrobat and Escapologist"? or even just "Escapologist" considering...

****SPOILER ALERT****

...the escapologist remains in the story after the acrobat has died

Sorry if that wasn't clear, RockStarNYC. Ben is definitely back in the show, I saw him last night. But the Playbill had Richard H. Blake in the Escapologist role, but Ben also listed in the role in the Playbill and in the "at this performance" insert. It was a bit confusing, that's why I was asking if Richard was just subbing for Ben over the summer.

I see the track list shows an overture as the first song. Though I don't recall there being any overture. Other than the very short melody with the out-of-tune instruments, doesn't the show begin by going right into "Miracle"?

They added a very short Overture, really more of a Prelude, to the Broadway production earlier this summer, along with a show curtain. The theory is that they were having trouble with getting the fight/dance calls done in order to get the house open on time. With the show curtain they can keep on working onstage and still open the house at half hour.

Gotcha, taboo. It's my understanding Blake was the sub as Ben Thompson injured his arm and was out of the show for a while as a result.

Blake was the temporary replacement and I imagine since Ben is returning a little bit into the month, they haven't had time to change the playbill to reflect his return just yet. It's also worth noting that Blake was listed on the understudy board last night as being on for Chris Hoch's track so perhaps he's staying in the cast in some capacity as a swing or something.

Thanks AEA. Looking forward to hearing the Overture that was added.

Saw it on Tues the 10th and Ben was in. His knee is wrapped. Jill Paice was wonderful. Better than the original, in my opinion. (Saw the original cast in previews here)

When is this being released digitally? I've heard both September 27th (when it'll be on sale at the Shubert) and October 22nd (when it's released in stores).

I heard from one of the Matilda musicians that one of the songs was recorded using all four Matildas together, unlike the London version where each girl only recorded everything separately. It would make sense for it to be Naughty being there is that version that all four have sung on stage/TV but I didn't get any more details. I also have no real confirmation that it's being used but I assume it is being it was recorded.

I wonder if they will include the unlisted additional track, as they did with the OLC.

This recording is clearly 'better' than the original, in that it is far more complete and better represents what is heard on stage. Some of the performances are also stronger (e.g., Miss Honey's performance of "My House" has improved so much; I'm aware it's the same actress). However, I'm finding it difficult to enjoy the Matildas. They do sound more like what I've heard whenever I've seen the show, but in the worst way - the vocal performances don't seem as strong (and even slightly out of tune at times) compared to the original recording. Did they embellish performances in the original recording?
