I know the Hirschfeld is looking likely, but I'm hoping it ends up at the Lunt-Fontanne or the Broadway

Posted: 9/6/18 at 4:15pmI still think the only thing they need to work on is the ending/final 10 minutes. It’s a glorious show and a stunning production. Can’t wait for when it (eventually) arrives.

That doesn't mean anything...I think Burstein & Luker do the autograph table almost every year, whether they have a show or not.

Well, the other shows it's listed with are Mockingbird, King Kong, and The Prom, so it sounds like they mean "forthcoming."

Yeah, same here. And after the Brantley love letter/rave, I'm optimistic nothing will change with the cast either.

If they can cut 20 minutes of unnecessary musical medley additions and add some gravitas to the final moments of the show, this has the potential to be long-running hit and not just a 3-4 year hit. It's my favorite film of all time, and I can't wait to see what they change from Boston to Broadway!

I'm not sure what kind announcement you want. "We're not opening yet!" It's too far away to make a big deal right now. We are talking nearly a year from now. Possibly more.

MOULIN ROUGE can't announce anything until the current tenant of the theatre posts a closing notice. So after KINKY BOOTS announces (if the longstanding Hirschfeld rumor is indeed true), then we can start speculating when MOULIN will announce.

Word on the street was the producers (new to Bway) didn't want to compete with themselves on KING KONG, which they also have this season.

This logic still makes no sense to me. Scott Rudin, Broadway producing extraordinaire, often has several shows open in one Tony "category" each season.
Bring the Rouge to Broadway.

Yeah, but Rudin's overlap is usually with limited-engagement, star-driven plays –– I don't think he or anyone, even David Merrick & Garth Drabinsky in their heydays, would put two $20+ million musicals up against each other to compete for Broadway's best marketing tool (Tony Awards) and also dilute the managerial focus that the producers could give the two shows.
Kong and Moulin will have to run for YEARS to make all that money back. If they both fail, or if one is a moderate hit and the other tanks, that could be the end of "Global Creatures" on Broadway. If they succeed, Broadway could have a big new power-player. They're playing the long game, and they're right to do so.

It makes sense. Regardless of "competition," producing is a FULL TIME job. Rubin is able to do it because he has a large and very competent staff with lots of experience. If these are new Broadway producers they should probably take one step at a time. It makes sense to wait. Plus the show needs soooooooo much work. It was a complete mess in Boston. Beautiful show but the book is in shambles. Fix the book and let it run for years!

(And while I think the book DOES need work) The reviews didn't seem to think, for the most part, that it was a complete mess.

Bringing up Rudin is to not understanding his seasons.....He almost never has two BIG productions a season. Its usually several small plays and one big musical. Once you have a good GM and good staff and loyal (or trapped) investors it becomes easy to roll out two-three plays in the fall and then in the spring.
Global Creatures is producing two MULTI-MILLION dollar experiential massive musicals. It makes all the sense in the world not to open in the same season.

Which is pretty much what we've been saying since the show closed - not that anyone reads/listens. (Not meaning YOU, trpguyy.)

So, Danny Burstein just signed on for a limited run in My Fair Lady from January to April 28. Sounds about right if Moulin Rouge! is supposedly opening in summer 2019, since they'd be starting rehearsals around early May...
