Florida’s Asolo Repertory Theatre will present a newly reimagined production of Twyla Tharp and Billy Joel’s Broadway hit Movin’ Out, beginning performances in Sarasota on November 13 for a run through December 28.
Fair assumption since it is being produced with Nederlander. Curious as to what this concept will be…
I wonder if it might be reimagined as a dance musical in line with Cats or Illinoise, instead of a ballet accompanied by a Billy Joel tribute group?

I totally agree and see where you’re coming from regarding Movin’ Out being reimagined like Illinoise. The article hints that Twyla Tharp plans to dive back into the story and characters, which makes me think the tales of the five friends will get a fresh look, with deeper exploration and development.

What more is there to say about these characters? They went to HS together and came back for a reunion. They all either found or lost love. They survived the Vietnam War era and moved on with life. Tough IMO to explore these characters even further when Billy Joel never did a new album of songs after "River of Dreams" and the title song of that album was in the original show.
Enjoyed the musical mostly because the dancing was phenomenal, it is one of the rare shows that I saw a couple of times. I would rather see Ms. Tharp dive into a brand-new show instead of remaking this one but would be interested in seeing what she plans to do.
I was always surprised Roundabout never revived this. It seemed like a low hanging fruit for their subscriber base, especially with the increased popularity of Joel these past few years.
