Maid in Manhattan

Another good 2000's movie that would be a good musical is Maid in Manhattan. Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes were the two leads. It has a winning musical comedy formula with it's modern rags to riches story, Big Apple setting, a Latina female lead and mistaken identity

No, we already had Cinderella, just way less tacky, predictable and racially stereotypical.

Jesus no. I’d rather someone do a musical of Nomadland.

Or a film of DEAR EVAN HANSEN. Oh, wait…

If we’re doing a musical about a maid, it needs the be the Ally Sheedy 1987 masterpiece, “Maid To Order”. And yes I’m serious.

Yes and Cheno was born to play the Valerie Perrine role. I hope they keep the song “Clean Up Woman” in the show. I may have the soundtrack.

I thought that the Broadway League determined that Goonies and Gremlins must be adapted before any JLo film.

I accept. I forgot about the fairy godmother played by Beverly D’Angelo  That would be a really fun part. Not sure who I’d cast.

I’m more focused on who would play Nick, the chauffeur if the pool scene is included in this new stage version.

If were talking about turning movies into musicals, the 1961 film A MAJORITY OF ONE would make a terrific vehicle for That Streisand Woman playing the role Rosalind Russell did in the film.

Speaking of JLo films, I am surprised we haven’t seen a Selena musical.

Add me to the love fest for “Maid to Order” - it’s long overdue for a blu-ray release.

The film demands a Criterion release. At the last horror convention I went to before Covid, I finally got to meet Sheedy who signed my poster for the film that I’ve had since 1987 and she and her assistant were over the moon that I had that.

I think of J. Lo's movies, I'd rather do something based on The Wedding Planner, Second Act, or even The Back-up Plan. Or imagine who they could cast if they did Monster-in-Law!

If we’re adapting comedies from that era I’d rather see something like HEARTBREAKERS starring Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt. I think that would lend itself to a stage adaption really well and could you IMAGINE the castings. I knew her name gets thrown about a lot for various things but this is something I could see Dove Cameron doing and Kristen Chenoweth could be her mom!

Or a musical based around JLO's life? Like The Cher Show?

I was also thinking of a Spice Girls themed musical.

The Back Up and The Wedding Planner would make such fun musicals!!!

Also throwing in Ghost (Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze) and 27 Dresses.

Patti Lupone or Bernadette Peters in Jane Fonda's role in Monster In Law?

Did you not know that there was already a stage musical (West End and Broadway) of GHOST?
