Sweatyoracle on tiktok suggested that phantom is simply returning, as is, to the majestic. The theatre is simply just getting renovated.

It just feels like such a betrayal for the artistic vision of that production to be staged in such a huge venue.
The only possibility I could see is that they were intending to use it as a big open space and build their own theatre inside of it, which seems so much more complicated and expensive than just using a smaller theatre."
You can probably trace this back to Sweaty who keeps throwing up names of whichever space is empty as the home for the production. Majestic seems so wildly wrong for Cabaret that this rumour shouldn't even be considered.

The producers of Cabaret seem to be flailing a bit with the transfer—in terms of locking down a location and the casting. SO is not the only source of Cabaret rumors—it’s all around town right now.
Greg Mills just posted a story on Instagram showing that crews are already taking down wall panelling in the lobby. I guess the renovation has begun :)

Flailing implies that they gave indications about bringing it over. There have been absolutely none from anyone involved and people seem to be speculating just because it's the kind of thing that's expected to transfer.

There was more than speculation on this forum. I remember reading posts stating "Contracts are signed' etc. Were those complete fabrications?

Just curious. Will the Majestic Theater renovation be easier or harder than the renovation of the Winter Garden after "Cats" closed?
Well, I’d assume harder only because Phantom was there longer? But curious to see the theater once the outside is painted and renovated and I’m assuming a new marquee etc.
Several former Phantom cast members have posted pics over the past week which indicate that they quickly began the process of dismantling the show. I've already seen video of the travelator bridge sitting out on 44th St.
Do we know how long the renovation will take? Will there be a show opening in this theatre Spring 2024/

This is my first time back in the city since Phantom closed and I am going out of my way to avoid 44th Street so I don't have to see the shuttered theater in person. The only time I have to cross 44th is when I see Shucked so I will walk on the east side of 7th Av down to the Nederlander and keep looking forward! It certainly doesn't help that my hotel's concierge desk has a big poster advertising Phantom at the Majestic. I wonder if they'll let me have it : )
The last post I saw of the reno on instagram looked like they had a giant platform extended from the front mezzanine all the way to the stage. It is going to be such a painstaking process to fix all that paint. Yes, Phantom was there for 35 years with no renovations, but before that, when 42nd Street moved out of the theater in early 1987, Phantom just moved right in and there was no time for general renovations, so we are talking 1980 was the last time any significant work could have been done on the Majestic.

I cannot wait to return to this glorious theater.
Are there any plans from the Shuberts or whoever to place some kind of plaque or marker in front of the majestic to commemorate the run of phantom, similar to how there’s a plaque in front of the imperial that celebrates the original production of Les Mis?
Kind of odd there’s been know info or press release? Assuming they’re painting the front and updating the marquee too?

I was tempted to ask them for it as well, when we were there for the closing in April.
