At the Fountain - SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS
Ive always had good success with Anthem from Chess. If you can belt g's, and I mean BELT, nothing better that the final run of 'em in Anthem. If your feeling particularly bold pop the last note up to an A..now your in big boy territory...lol. Good luck with your search!
PhillyActor beat me to it--"Anthem" from CHESS. It really should be sung by a tenor, but a baritone with a good upper register can do it too. Anthony Warlow's recording of it is awesome.
FYI, most "power ballads" are usually tenor songs. We baritones usually get neglected on that front
well... I can go from a low f or e to like a high b flat or C, so I can do most guy songs... but I'm classified as a tenor... but only recently so. Gotta love voice changes... erk... but thanks! I will look for those.

"Where I Want To Be" - Chess
"Funny" - City Of Angels
pity the child from chess is the ultimate in my opinion.
i also like why, god why from miss saigon
and aspects of empty chairs at empty tables.
there's of course the classics like being alive or corner of the sky.
if you play with the arrangements for these two, you can come up with some really interesting stuff
Ah, but Clay, my dear boy, a bunch of g's arent too "powerful" from a tenor. However a good bari-tenor with a run g's is just fabulously priceless! lol. Let 'em see ya workin'..lol
"Pity the Child" from Chess, rips my emotions to shreds and tangos on them.
"I'll Cover You (Reprise)" from Rent does the same.
"Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" from Les Mis

"Wheels of a Dream" - Ragtime.
(the Sarah parts of the song are basically backing vocals).

Thanks Guys. Now.. anyone know where I could find the ORIGINAL cast recording for Chess? It's not for sale on the internet as I can see...
I saw the cast album available at used music on Amazon last night. There were quite a few copies available. Note that is for the English cast recording. You could also get Colm Wilkinson's Stage Heroes CD which I also saw available on Amazon last night. It has both aforementioned songs from Chess as well as a few others you might like. That is if you sing like you just did a shot of Jack Daniels while simultaneously grabbing your balls!
"Make Them Hear You"--RAGTIME
"Anthem"--CHESS
"Gethsemane"--JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (The way it is written in songbooks is lower than what performers sing it as)
"Love Can Happen" from GRAND HOTEL
"Wheels of a Dream" is my favourite. I can belt the hell out of it and not sound strained. It is also a beautiful message too.

Depending on the style you want (and the vocal range)...
"The Impossible Dream" (Man of La Mancha)
"Where Do I Go?" (Hair)
"Soliloquy" (Carousel, but you'd have to cut it way down, unless you've got 10 minutes to spare)
"This Nearly Was Mine" (South Pacific)
"There But For You Go I" (Brigadoon)
"Mamma, Mamma" (Most Happy Fella)
Nard,
I can't say that about a lot of ballads...it's that song, not me. Which is why i suggest it for other people.

"Soliloquy" about seven minutes long, actually. It's good for cabarets and recitals, but only if the audience has a good attention span
...It just feels like ten when I listen to it. What a marathon!
But it's also one of the best ever written!
Id say "what is it about her?" I just sang and the crowd loved it. its a very powerful song if you have a loud voice and a good belt.
