This feels misleading. The giveaway was already planned. He just helped give out tickets. I appreciate his stance but don't think he should take credit from the organizers
He didn’t take any credit from the organizers.
He gave full credit to the organizers right at the beginning.

I guess all the press about him "joining" makes it seem like he did more than hand out tickets. Sorry. Just in a phase where I tend to distrust every single politician, even the ones on my side of the aisle. Dark days here in America.

I have a lot of friends over the years who have come here from socialist countries and they wouldn’t necessarily agree with your take. In fact, they took it way more seriously because they lived it.
As one of my buddies said, Americans have a real cursory understanding of what socialism really is. It is interpreted by privileged universities here in a privileged country as something very appealing. An equalizer of sorts. And when you don’t have to live it, it seems very appealing on paper
But as he said, that’s often not how it usually ends up working. At least in many of the countries from which these immigrants are coming to America.
It was serious business for them. Enough for them to leave their countries. To them it wasn’t just some romanticized philosophy. It went well beyond what it looks like on paper. And at least for these many friends of mine, it wasn’t good.

There is a huge difference between a socialist political systems built into a government, and a single democratic socialist mayor in a country where the president is so conservative he’s basically re-doing imperialism. It’s disingenuous to act like they’re the same.
Also this is a theater message board, just because the mayor gives out theater tickets doesn’t mean every topic he’s mentioned needs to become “this city is going to ****”

I'm not exactly a socialist at heart, but the type of socialism people are pushing for in the US would resemble what you see in fellow high-income countries like Denmark, Sweden, or the Netherlands - countries where people are much happier, on average, than Americans, and where almost no one would dream of emigrating to our little ****hole.

Can I ask which socialist countries they came from?
The mayor helped promote and hand out tickets for a free ticket initiative that would've happened regardless of who moved into Gracie Mansion. Why is it a referendum on socialism?
