Oh yeah, All Shock Up was awesome! Thank god that the boo-rific Mamma Mia! opened the door for all these jukebox musicals...

I hate Mamma Mia. The plot was weak and dumb. Basically to me, it was like an ABBA concert with a plat and...without Abba.

I LOVE Mamma Mia! and am not afraid to admit it. It's pure fun and it just makes me feel all warm inside every time I see it.
I grew up listening to ABBA songs and as they've always been a part of my life, it just made me enjoy the show more. I remember the first time I saw it, I couldn't get over the choice of songs with certain scenes- thought it was done so well (in most cases).
The show also gave me a chance to see some amazing performers like Louise Pitre (who's become a personal favorite), Tina Maddigan, Karen Mason and Carolee Carmello. What's wrong with that?
Oh, and my favorite song is "Slipping Through My Fingers" , especially when sung by Louise and Tina.

Carolee did give Louise a run for her money with her WTIA, the last note gave me goosebumps! The only person I've seen come close to Mason's Tanya was Jeanine Morrick, or however you spell her name. She was almost better, and such a wonderful person offstage. Where's Joe Machota off to?

I haven't seen the show, have mixed feelings about the OBC, but I suspect I would like it, based on my age. I grew up when ABBA was in, (under age 10 but still music aware), and I still love their music. I think the OBC did quite well on Dancing Queen and The Winner Takes it All, among a few others, but I totally prefer real ABBA to the OBC.

I absolutely DETEST the cast recording - btw, it's NOT the Broadway cast but the London cast. There is no OBC, which is a shame.
I loved Carolee's Donna and she is definitely my second favorite in the role...(Louise will always be the first, no matter what.
) I loved her "Winner" and that last note....wow. She just so much fun to watch, so bubbly and energetic on stage - loved her.
And yeah, I also loved Jeanine Morrick as Tanya - she was wonderful!! I really like the current Tanya as well, Judy McLane - she's an absolute hoot and her "Does Your Mother Know" is to die for.

Thank you for the correction, guess I haven't looked at the CD close enough. An OBC probably would have been better then...I'll have to see it.

I saw it in Toronto a few years ago. It was the first musical that I've ever seen....live, so I loved it. Now that I have seen more musicals, looking back at it, Mamamia wasn't that amazing....... but it's still a good time.

It's an enjoyable and fun show. I like to think of it as "the chick-flick musical". Is it a great piece of theatre? Not at all, but it's entertaining nonetheless.
