I like all the demands but I especially like this demand: Scott Rudin to be removed from the Broadway League - If he is not removed from the Broadway League, we want restoration. We want Scott to publicly choose 20 BIPOC run theatres and donate a LARGE SUM of money to them

The connection between Scott Rudin and POC is...?
Can someone point me in the proper direction about this piece? Because I only have the Jagged Little Pill stuff in my head right now.
"Actor's Equity Association and the overall lack of representation for the BIPOC, AAPI, Trans, Non-Binary, and gender-nonconforming communities that have come to light during the shutdown".

I suggest a google search!

Just googled and apparently he threw a brown-skinned potato at someone, but otherwise no mention skin color.
Maybe, this being a discussion board, you can illuminate me?
When 5 (is it 5?) other Scott Rudin threads just aren't enough.

just curious if he will get some sort of hearing or just be booted out automatically from the Broadway League? I suppose, though, that giving him a chance to respond to the allegations made in a magazine article and by word of mouth by anonymous persons would be considered systemically racist in itself; so no.

These demands are ridiculous.
Would they settle for him being thrown out of the Broadway Softball League?
Also, who gets to decide how much is "A LOT" of money??

I think everyone knows that there is no amount of money he could donate that would sufficiently get the Twitter woke police off his back. This is a life sentence (and then some, because they will for sure dance on his grave when he's gone).
Oh boy, do these people need a communications team. Dripping with naïveté

LOL! LOL! LOL! I agree!
who’s in charge of them?
who’s doing their PR? Where’s their office?
You ain’t gonna win anything with blind statements like “donate LARGE sums of money”
They want him to donate “large sums of money”, or....what? What’s the endgame? They already want him blacklisted from broadway. So what’s the threat if he doesn’t give money? That he be extra-blacklisted?

He's put on the double-secret blacklist.
I’m not making fun of the situation, it just doesn’t make sense to me.

To be clear I am definitely making fun of it. They are dedicating a whole march to getting rid of one guy, but they also gave him a vague out-clause if he donates some unspecified sum of money to totally unrelated groups. It's a little crazy.
1. Scott Rudin to be removed from the Broadway League - If he is not removed from the Broadway League, we want restoration. We want Scott to publicly choose 20 BIPOC run theatres and donate a LARGE SUM of money to them.
2. A full list of organizations that AEA is working with to help Black, Indigenous, and POC feel safer.
3. A full report of how the 2020 Equity dues were spent and what percentage is being spent to help conversations around diversity.
4. Achieve greater inclusion for trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming artists.
5. We want visibility on how the national council votes for policies. We also want efforts to improve diversity within the council.
6. We want to achieve greater inclusion for artists with visible and nonvisible differing abilities.
Look, I support all of these but the first one is really vague, weirdly stated, and doesn't say what will happen if that does not happen. Like, what is a LARGE sum of money? Be more specific and a bit more organized with these demands! Just my thoughts.

It’s like a protest run by children.
Reminds me of when I was younger I left a note on my bedroom door saying I was refusing to ever come out unless my mum agreed to stop making me eat broccoli.
Didn’t work.

a *little* crazy?
Also if these demands aren't met then....what, exactly? So silly.

Yeah, it's a bit embarrassing. Anyone going to this? If so, what do you hope to achieve? Serious question.

Then... they are going to be REALLY unhappy about it and stand on a street corner and shout stuff. All 3 of them.
As an Equity member, this just all seems unfocused to me? Rudin isn't part of the Actor's Union, as far I can tell, has only harassed people from his own office, which again, are not part of the Union. So, why does the Union need to get involved? Sure it all sucks and indirectly effects us, but I guess I'm confused why it's being treated this way.
Secondly, I don't know what they want the Union to do with inclusion? They can't force writers to write scripts that are more diverse, or require theaters to only produce diverse plays, or force directors to cast who they cast. I'm just confused as to what the outcome is suppose to be.

They need an adult in the room, too. This is embarrassing, and that's a compliment.

You can produce a show on Broadway without being a member of the League. Not sure what they think that will accomplish.
