That was bizarre
I thought it was sweet. She looked like she was sincerely just too overcome and overwhelmed with emotion, didn't want to break down in front of all those people, and just needed to get offstage. I don't think she had any "motive" behind it.
That was seriously un-freakin-believable!!!
I know she is a ravishing and incomparable diva of theatre LEGEND and lore... but she is also 10x a hat-box full of CRAZY!!!
Was she snubbing the award? Having a stroke?
For those who didn't see: she received a huge standing ovation from the audience, and when they finally settled down and got silent, there was an awkward silence as Seldes seemed speechless, showing a stunned face, more anticipation for her to speak, but walked offstage. Brilliant and classy!
The more important topic of discussion is WTF is Karen Olivo WEARING??

Well this really screws up Davenport's TONY tie breaker...
That was fabulous. She gave a speech, just not verbally.
Almost as good as saying no one helped me & I deserevd it because I am great.
She will be remembered by what she did not say.
I adore Marian! She is a kind and gracious woman and I can totally see her being left speechless after the ovation! Her silence spoke volumes, one of the most elegant acceptance speeches ever!
Like I said in the other thread:
"She was speechless... literally... SPEECH-less". lol.
Did she not prepare s epeech or was she just in total awe? haha! This will be on YT in a matter of minutes! ;]
Oh, by the way folks, her previous Tony award was STOLEN FROM HER HOME! On NY1, the theatre correspondent spoke to her about it and she had tears in her eyes talking about what happened. I'm sure this award meant the world to her. Any cries of arrogance are patently stupid.

Thank you Borstal.
I only got to see the telecast, and having watched it I wish I could have seen this moment. It sounds both memorable and touching.
For me, that moment was the highlight of the evening.
For me, that moment was the highlight of my LIFE.
Hitchcockian.

We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!
I don't think she was overcome. She was swinging the cane as she walked off stage. I think the whole thing was very intentional, and I love her for it.
she proved that sometimes the best thing to say is nothing at all.
Did the other parts of the country see the whole section of the show? The West Coast only saw her in a brief clip of her with other winners...
They could have showed a lot fewer commercials and included the Lifetime Achievement Awards in the broadcast.
I watched it online.
