Ouch. Those shiny synthetic non-lace front Party City wigs. WTF?

I saw a completely staged workshop two years ago - let's be kind and just say there was a LOT of work to do and I doubt any of it has actually been done.

The description on the website is just so...odd:
MARILYN! THE NEW MUSICAL DESCRIPTION
"We don’t know how Marilyn Monroe got her white dress to fly up like that in “The Seven Year Itch.” No matter how hard we try, we always end up flashing oncoming traffic, or even worse losing our dresses all together. Well, hopefully when Marilyn! The New Musical comes to Vegas, we can learn a thing or two, and finally get it right.
From Norma Jean to Marilyn Monroe, this Las Vegas musical will take us on a sing-along journey through the icon’s life. With more than 20 musical numbers ranging from “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” to “My Heart Belongs to Daddy” we’ll learn more about Marilyn’s life than we ever have before. It’s so in-depth it’s like discovering hidden treasure in the middle of a scorching hot island.
If you already put a dot on your face because you want to look like Marilyn, just wait until you see this musical. You’ll get the urge to start wearing a blond wig, a white dress and even change your voice to sound like hers. Marilyn! The New Musical is joining the other Vegas icons like Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley for a show that you won’t want to miss."
Wait, what?

Clearly, this crap will probably fly with the middle-America audience in Las Vegas

There is already a thread about "Marilyn," so I will repeat myself.
I will be in Las Vegas in November to run the Rock N Roll "Strip at Night" Marathon. When I learned about this production, I immediately bought a ticket for the night before the race. Very excited to see this.
I do not live in Middle America.

Visit Vegas often and here's my take on some of the Broadway shows that played on the strip:
CHICAGO: Good run
MAMMA MIA: Very good run
HAIRSPRAY: Poor run
NOTRE DAME DU PARIS: Very poor run
PHANTOM: Very good run
JERSEY BOYS: Very good run
ROCK OF AGES: Very good run
THE PRODUCERS: Fair run
MARILYN!: Crickets

Cat Guy,
Good luck with it even being open then. I predict a short, short run.

BenjaminNicholas2,
They'd rather be gambling.
PHANTOM and jukebox musicals have had legs in Vegas, but few if any others.

Tom Levitt and Julia Houston did it first.

Surprised Phantom isn't still going or Jersey Boys. They seem like such Vegas shows. Maybe the Jimmy Buffet show will make it to Vegas?

From what I've heard, Jersey Boys just ran out of steam out there, but that was surprising. As for Phantom, Mackintosh pulled the rights so he could have the only non-Broadway production in the US be his new tour.
I've got a friend in this Marilyn show and it sounds like they've got some interesting ideas for it. Hopefully it's better than that sizzle reel was though.

I believe you meant to say "fizzle reel". Perhaps we can adopt this term for less-than-exciting theatrical trailers/sizzle reels?

End Of The Rainbow with it's focus on only a part of Judy's life and with its intelligent scripting very much got it right. Marilyn!, on the other hand, if making it to Broadway, may well end of registering as Elephant!

C'mon, already. I have a friend in it, too, and so what? What I saw in the hugely expensive workshop was not a kernel of an idea - I mean, really. The overhaul would have had to be so massive to make an iota of difference - like a page one rethink. These people aren't going to do that because they had all their nearest and dearest clapping them on the back telling them how great it was. The kind of enabling that kills most shows.

Just took a peek at the Ticketmaster site for the show. Sad, sad, sad. That house is gonna have to be papered every night of the run. They are also still using the original sizzle/fizzle reel at TM.
