Neil Meron and Craig Zadan to produce PROMISES, PROMISES as TV Musical for ABC, starring Matthew Morrison and Jane Krakowski. Christmas 2011 airdate.
This news came to me from a source who used to feed me legitimate tips to my MovieMusicals.net website. I have connections with the Meron/Zadan office and I'm working to confirm.
You heard it here first.
Krakowski as Fran or Marge? She reads even older than Cheno.

^ I would think Jane would be a much better choice for Marge than for Fran.
I approve.

what happened to Zadan and Meron's Peter Pan?. but this is exciting it's about time that we have a TV Musical
This seems pretty sound to me.
And I loves it!
YES YES YES!!
I am sure they will include the numbers added for Cheno like the revival. First question... new TV cast "soundtrack" album??

This would be great!
I think it would be a lot of fun, but it does have to be said that Zedon and Meron have had at least half a dozen musical movie / tv specials announced that have never come to fruition. Its hard to imagine a network would think PROMISES PROMISES would be a better idea than some of the other projects they've said were 'in the works.'

Why not just use Cheno?? Morrison and her already have chemistry from Glee, and I don't think Krakowski is a bigger name than her.

I know that Morrison is a hot property right now, but he's not right for this show. Morrison lacks the light comedy touch needed for the role. Much better to have cast Neil Patrick Harris or someone who could prove they could handle comedy.
I really hate to be one of "those" people, but Katie Finneran was such an amazing Marge and it would be a real shame if they do this project without her. I'm assuming they will, but I will hold out hope.
That being said, I do think that Jane Krakowski would make a wonderful Marge. But I really don't see her as Fran.

You said it though Gotham. Hot wins over perfect casting. Ideally it should be someone without idol looks. More like Zachary Levi for example.
Morrison would make a great Sheldrake
i cant speak for his comedic abilities for this role, but in interviews and such matthew morrison certainly possesses the endearing, lovable qualities of chuck.
Matthew is too good looking for this role, no one will buy he can't get a date. Jane is totally wrong for this, her singing voice isn't that great, and she looks older than Cheno.
But both Cheno and Jane are wrong for this part.
I'd suggest someone like Anne Hathaway, or a Broadway star who could sing the score...like Amy Spanger if they don't mind casting an actress who isn't a mainstream name yet.
Maybe they meant her for Marge and him for JJ Sheldrake, with two young kids like Efron and Hudgens for the CC and Fran roles.
That would get four quad ratings that would be huge.
Good for them for considering actors who can genuinely sing but Morrison is the very definition of wrong for the lead (I don't care how much you nerd him up, he will never, ever be able to enter schlub country) and Krakowski is just flat-out too old for Fran.
They would be absolutely ideal as Sheldrake and Marge Macdougal, however.

Sheldrake should be a little older and sleazier. Someone like James Marsden.

The casting sounds adequate enough for a made-for-TV movie, I guess. I agree that Krakowski should play Marge, not Fran.
But when are they going to have time to film it for a Christmas 2011 airdate? Matt Morrison is busy with Glee and is touring for his album all summer. And Jane Krakowski is about to have a baby and, I'm assuming, contracted to 30 Rock.

Someone like James Marsden.
I don't think Marsden reads all that much older than Morrison
Yes, Krakowski is too old for the role, but I can't say she wouldn't be absolutely great. But I was very critical of Chenoweth playing the role at the time because of her age so I definitely get the criticism, I just adore Krakowski.

Very good question. Both GLEE and 30 ROCK go on hiatus in April and Krakowski's baby is due in late April and won't be 'physically' ready to begin any project for several weeks. They COULD begin rehearsals in between projects and before the baby so it IS possible to go into into production sometime in early summer allowing Morrison to do his World Tour immediately after AND before he goes back to work at GLEE.
TV movies only take a few weeks to film (not the standard 3 months as an average theatrical film does). It most likely will be filmed on a soundstage (with some light exterior shots) so it CAN be filmed and all its post-production completed by late fall and ready to air by Christmas 2011.
Krakowski is eight years away from playing Norma Desmond.
Enough with actresses twice Fran's age playing the role. At this rate you might as well get Barbara Cook.
