Posted: 11/28/06 at 1:49pmI must be really far behind the times--what show is Donna Murphy going to be doing?

Posted: 11/28/06 at 1:52pmThe Drama Desk awards are not a good predicter of the Tonys--they didn't even nominate LaChanze.

Posted: 11/28/06 at 1:54pmNor did they nominate Cynthia Nixon, Tony's other winning Leading Actress last year.

I still feel like LBB will get a nomination if the show is really good...like I feel.
Even though I have heard some negatives about PQ I have heard Block is amazing.

I thought Monk was going to be considered featured.
Anyways, Ashley Brown should get a nod. She does good in her part. Monk had her chance.

I would wager that Murphy is the weakest of the "locks" and that Bundy is the dark horse for the nomination.
Both Monk and Cass Morgan (bird lady from MP) were nominatable for Pump Boys...and if Morgan had gotten better notices (did she get mentioned at all?) and Monk was considered supporting, they could go head to head 25 years later!
I love me some Cass.

Don't know how I could forget about Wilson, especially having just seen GG again the other day.
Munk, you wrote that Monk wouldn't have been eligible for those shows. It may not have been what you meant, but it's what you wrote. That simply is not correct.
And what I was saying is that Monk's roles in all those shows were as large or larger than roles in other shows for which actors were not only nominated, but won. Which is why I mentioned Marilyn Cooper. You could also mention Dee Dee Bridgewater and Adriane Lenox.

Posted: 11/28/06 at 2:09pmI'm sure Block and Bundy will be quite good, but it's hard to be better than Christine Ebersole, Deborah Monk, Donna Murphy, Audra McDonald, and Kristin Chenoweth.

no one from SPRING AWAKENING will be nominated. the show will close way before tony time. too many star turns out there. ebersole is a lock for a nom and the award itself if they are open through the nominating process.
Deb Monk will most likely be featured but it will go to mary louise, barring an act of God.

Posted: 11/28/06 at 3:09pmAshley Brown sings nicely and has purty costumes. They hoist her up in the air. No offense to what she's doing in Mary Poppins, but it's a poorly constructed role in a show that's not very good. If the competition were different, then she might get a nomination. I say her chances are QUITE slim with getting nominated. I JUST saw the show on Friday and was quite disappointed.
#67re: Michael Musto's Tony Predictions

nothing against any performers like ashley, etc - it's just that the best actress in a musical category seems to have lots of star contenders this year and unless you are SOCKO-BOFFO like judy holiday or something, you will not have a chance.
JRB - are you "on" GG?

I see the leading categories filled with well-known names, where as the featured category might house some of the newcomers.
There's no way Ashely Brown will get nominated. Being "okay" in your part is not good enough, when compared to solid performers like McDonald and Cheno.
Bundy has the odds on her side though. The show is a comedy and if it's as funny as it could be, she might get a nod. People love comedies, and comedy is much harder to do than drama. Not saying she'll win, but I wouldn't count her out on a nom. The show will be fresh in voters minds as well.
As much as I think I'd like Spring Awakening, I don't think it will get really any nominations as far as acting. And there's no way it's the next Rent. Rent is something totally different. Rent deals with 20somethings living life, whereas Spring Awakening is just a story about teens "coming of age." Just because it has rock music in it doesn't mean its the next Rent.

What are Debra Monk and Donna Murphy going to be in?
Also, how are the chances for Mary Louise Wilson in the featured actress category? Surely a nomination!
#72re: Michael Musto's Tony Predictions
Posted: 11/28/06 at 3:35pmwilson is currently the one to beat. if I was a betting man, i'd put my money down now that she wins. but who knows?

Monk is in Curtains and Murphy in Lovemusik, right?
I'd say Mary Louise Wilson is almost a lock for featured...she was wonderful.
And if Ebersole doesn't win, something is wrong.
