Posted: 1/7/10 at 12:45am^^ the show is always better without any stunt casting in it. Although I've heard Brooke Sheilds(Roxie), Patrick Swayze(Billy) & Jasmine Guy(Velma) were excellent and failed to live up to the usually bad stunt casting Chicago has had.

Definitely not "stunt casting".
"Stunt casting" would be Amy Fischer or Tonya Harding as Roxie, or Johnny Cochrane as Billy Flynn.

Jasmine Guy can't really be considered stunt casting. When she was chosen to originate the role in the First National Tour (and subsequently take her performance to Broadway and Vegas), CHICAGO needed no buzz and/or and advance in ticket sales, nor did the producers market her as the "star." Guy began in theatre, trained with Alvin Ailey, and had previous Broadway credits to her name. Audiences inevitably recognized her from television but, she had no special marketing campaign because she did have those recognizable credits. Guy received no more star billing and/or publicity than her Roxie, Charlotte d'Amboise, for example.
And yes, Guy was terrific in the role. A completely different take on the character than Neuwirth, who had been playing the role on Broadway at the time.
I wonder if Goodwin will extend her contract again, for Michelle Williams' run. It'd be fun to see an African American Roxie/Velma duo.

Posted: 1/7/10 at 4:55pmHow long is Goodwin's contract?? I thought she signed a 6 month contract(which would keep her until the end of Feb.)?? They haven't announced a replacement yet for Velma so it won't suprise me if she stays during Williams' run.
