Maury Yeston, who won a Tony Award for his score to Nine, has penned three new tunes for the upcoming film based on that Broadway musical.
According to the Daily Mail, the new tunes include "Take It All," which will be performed by Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard; and Cinema Italiano, which will be a big dance number performed by a Vogue journalist. (The Mail also reports that Kate Hudson is in negotiations to play the role of the journalist.) The title of the third new song was not named.
Rob Marshall, who will direct "Nine," told the Daily Mail, "In a way, it's a new musical because we took the wonderful bones of what Nine was and re-shaped it as a film." The award-winning director added, "There will be no dubbing. Everyone can carry a tune and they're all having singing lessons. They're in pretty good shape, and we'll have a 60-piece orchestra in the studio when we record the songs. It's all going to be very sexy."

Since Javier Bardem bowed out, this is one film I have no interest in following its progress. I will see it and let just leave it at that. I might be crazy enough to even seek out the soundtrack sometime as well.
Very sexy indeed. I'm turned on.

OMG I can't wait!! Only the astonishing majesty of PASSING STRANGE can outshine what will surely be Rob Marshall's crowning glory!
I'm very disappointed that Bardem will not be part of the film, but NINE is one of my all-time favorite musicals.
This "Cinema Italiano" number sounds a lot like "Folies Bergeres," I wonder if it means that the former was cut, especially since the character who sings it is a "vogue journalist" which more or less could be a version of Stephanie Necrophorus (though Necrophorus is a critic-turned-producer but still).
I'm not sure how I feel about Kate Hudson being part of this movie, isn't she a bit too apple pie to be in NINE?
And no news about Saraghina, wonder if the character is even in the movie.
I love Hudson in "Almost Famous."
Daniel Day-Lewis doesn't really scream sexy. That's my biggest problem with him as of right now.

Well, to each his/her own, I guess. I think he's very sexy.
It bugs me when people adds a couple songs to movie musicals for the sake of Oscar nominations, then cut a ton more of the musical's original songs.
It's mostly just the flock of gray hair for me.
And Maury Yeston is writing the songs. You never know- they could be fabulous.
Sexy? Um... no:
Sexy? F**K YEAH!
Daniel Day-Lewis from THE CRUCIBLE would be better . . .
Or maybe, you know, an actual Italian?
Bardem would have been wonderful.
But I suppose Day-Lewis's acting will be superb.
He's one of those people that only does a film if he is really invested in it and knows the material is very strong. That says a lot about how this film will probably end up.
I'm sorry, but in my book being able to "carry a tune" is not enough to star in a musical.
It worked for CHICAGO and SWEENEY.
Helena Bonham Carter proved to me that "carrying a tune" can work- and in her case, brilliantly.
Isn't Guido supposed to be 39. He is TOO OLD! AND HE LOOKS TOO OLD!

. Nicole will also sing a duet with Penelope called Simple
WHAT? I hope it's not a brand new SIMPLE. Maybe they just confused Claudia's spoken parts in the song as singing. Though I wouldn't mind if they both sing it. I was worried they would cut this song.
And it looks like Folies Bergeres is staying.

I think DDL is very sexy. I would bone that milkshake.
LJay, I am pretty sure they are just getting confused since Claudia is part of the number, I doubt it means she'll actually sing in the song. Or who knows? Maybe she will. Marshall did say it's almost like a completely different musical, perhaps in the same extent that NINE is quite different from 8 1/2
It should be called NINE 1/2 then.
I'm glad "Folies Bergeres" is still in. Now if only we could be re-assured about "Be Italian."
I'm sure BE ITALIAN will be there. I am thrilled they are keeping SIMPLE at this point. Though anything can happen by the time the finished product is done. It could go the same route as "Class" in the Chicago film.
The only one I care about is "Call from the Vatican."
Well that song is clearly not going anyway.
If "A Call from the Vatican" is cut, I think I might throw something heavy at the screen.
