Movies that WILL be musicals, inevitably — Page 2

"Hey let's make this 90 minute movie with forgettable music by an australian composer that nobody knows! And then keep doing it!"

I've thought Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog would be an amazing musical for a while, but I haven't seen any buzz about adapting it and although it has a cult following, most people have never heard of it.

Ahh, someday. I'd love to hear Martha's eleven o'clock number.

The time may have passed, but musical versions of Barefoot in the Park and The Odd Couple could have been quite good.  I presume Neil Simon had no interest in having musical versions of those plays. 

I feel that MY COUSIN VINNY is only a matter of time. It's going to happen. 

 

And the biological clock number us going to be great.

If I remember correctly, they were going to put it the stage a few years after the movie came out, but it became too expensive.

That, and the fact that it's a retread of the movie of Hair, sprinkled with a Beatles score and references and a "what if Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin hooked up?" subplot for good measure.

I think you could achieve it by simply having the actors in black & white costumes that start to become coloured in. The sets could also follow suit. A complete black and white room that starts to turn into technicolour bit by bit would be a great visual

There’s a Bock & Harnick version already, I think? 

I have been traveling for work a lot lately so been watching a lot of movies in-flight via Delta Studio. Not sure how successful either would be critically or commercially, but maybe Yesterday or Booksmart. At least both have somewhat original plots (although I think Booksmart is the better of the new two movies, its originality lies more in the way it approaches the story). Neither were exactly blockbusters (but then again neither were Waitress or The Band’s Visit) and wouldn’t have much of any built-in brand loyalty, but if done correctly, could be intriguing. The royalties for The Beatles catalogue for Yesterday would be expensive though.
