Does the fact that the movie was a mega-bomb not impact your suggestion at all?  (I actually enjoyed parts of the movie a lot, but also spent a lot of time wondering what they were thinking.

When I watched “To Wong Foo, thanks for everything, Julie Newmar” I couldn’t help but think, “this would make a kickass Broadway musical”.

I think The Poseidon Adventure is ripe for musicalization.  If ever there was a property that warranted that, it's this one.  They could even interpolate 'We Need a Little Christmas' into the engine room scene right before Stella Stevens takes the plunge.  Just imagine the possibilities!
