I was watching sweeney todd the other night (the angela lansbury and george hearn version) and I was wondering if mrs. Lovett cared about toby ? What do you guys think ?
Was never entirely sure. I don't think she was either.
The tweaks made for the movie DEFINITELY showed her caring for him like a son, but her unhealthy desire for Sweeney was just a bit stronger. To say the least.
I think she cares about him to an extent. Her desire for Sweeney, as has been stated, eclipses her care for Toby. Also, she uses him to an extent. He works for her, and I did always get the impression that they thought it was dangerous to let him go, that he might know too much.
That lady only cares for others when they bathe. If not, she tells everyone they smell.
Then they won't give her any applause during any award ceremony.
True story.
