My Fair Lady Revival

This show really needs to be revived soon! It's been so long since their's been a revival of it on Broadway! Do you think there's a chance it could be? Are the Collin Firth rumors confirmed? Who do you think should be Eliza?

My Fair Lady Revival

Laura Benanti should play Eliza. I can't think of anyone on Broadway that would be better for the part.

You read my mind Scoobs...I was thinking the same thing. She sure has the looks and voice for the part.

I also thought Samantha Barks, Sierra Boggess, Jessie Mueller, and Laura Osnes would be good in the role.

Osnes, Barks, Boggess for sure. Mueller not so much.

Benanti has another revival this season: She Loves Me.

My Fair Lady Revival

I don't see Benanti playing the Cockney side of Eliza. She's too porcelain.

And Eliza needs to be played by a true soprano, not a "second soprano" with a few high notes.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Who would have thought that Julie Andrews would have succeeded in that aspect?

I think Laura would nail the cockney and be absolutely hysterical with the comedic parts of the show. Eliza is a soprano part but for any real soprano (Which Laura is), it's not terribly difficult to sing. I have no doubt in my mind Laura would pull it off in spades.

They could cast an unknown. That seems rather fitting for Eliza, in my opinion.

Actually, she was a bit twee in the role and in MFL began her lazy habit of speaking lyrics rather than singing them.

Audiences were different back then. Realism in musicals wasn't as important as having a good time and reaching emotional satisfaction.

JESSIE MUELLER ALL THE WAY!

Laura O and Laura B would be great as well. Kelli would be ideal, but I guess she's to told? Benanti is kinda to old as well, but i guess it depends on what Bart is going for. Im assuming this will be revived next season, or the season after that

Yeah but what don't you assume, Pinto Bean? You should have just #confirmed it will be on Broadway with Mueller in 2016 and it'll be a smash hit and win every award and run for five years after opening. Why haven't your "friends" told you anything about it? Do you have the scoop????

They/them. "Get up the nerve to be all you deserve to be."

I actually think Sierra would be perfect for it. Laura Osnes is too...I don't know, nice for it, I think. Jessie Mueller probably could kill the songs too.

"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."

What's the planned timeline for this? I feel like it has been rumored for years now. I can't imagine Sher not casting O'Hara, though maybe he'll remember the brilliant work Benanti achieved under his direction in WOMEN ON THE VERGE... As I've said in numerous thread, there's no one I'd rather see in the role. And of all the actresses who are tossed around in these threads, she's the only one I see being equally adept as the unrefined Eliza and the post-transformation Eliza; it could be the performance of her career.

It's a shame Audra never got to do it. She'd have been stunning.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

I have been thinking of Lena Hall as Eliza since I heard the revival rumors .... or maybe Lauren Worsham.

Where's Eileen Rand when you need her?

Anyway, I second Lauren Worsham...as good as Osnes and Boggess are, I'd really like to see some fresher leading ladies take to Broadway.

I think Bart should do it at Lincoln Center...

I wonder how long King and I will run. Im thinking 3-5 years honestly. Its just such a beloved and popular show that everybody knows and wants to see. I have a feeling we will see many Annas and Kings

Lena has an amazing rock range, but I can't say I've ever heard her sing anything before that would suggest she has the more classical sound required for My Fair Lady.

Lauren Ambrose, Sher's Hennie in Awake and Sing, reputedly came close to getting Nellie in South Pacific and he famously wanted to star her in Funny Girl.

If she could sing it, she might prove an amazing Eliza.
