Curious why you didn't like Moulin Rouge since you (and I) love a big budget musical. 

But glad you liked A Strange Loop and Paradise Square.

I love a big budget musical as well, but I didn't like Moulin Rouge either. I know this show has legions of fans and I mean them no disrespect, but my husband and I thought it seemed like a whole lot of visual hype for nothing. We were uninvested in the characters and the story, and the sourcing of disparate songs from all over the place made it feel disjointed and the very definition of a bad jukebox musical (i.e., as if the show exists only to force the unrelated pop songs into the same space). Moulin Rouge was one of the few shows we've seen that we completely regretted afterwards and for which we would very much like to have gotten our time and money back."

 

OMG Lot666, exactly how I felt, I wasn't engaged, it was all over the place, Britney, Beyonce are great choices for a bar mitzvah, but not for a Broadway show in my opinion. Beetlejuice was much more clever, including only 1 popular song in an original fabulous score. Moulin was not well done in my point of view, and it had a lot of potential to be great. I also regretted the time and money I wasted on Moulin Rouge. But oh well, theater is always an investment they say!

You're going to really hate "& Juliet" then. But I can agree with all you and Lot said. I wasn't too impressed with the performances and thought Tveit gave one of the worst acting performances, especially the last scene - but vocally he was great. 

But what I love about Timbers is he really creates an experience. Same with Beetlejuice.

Aaron Tveit's El Tango De Roxanne was sick too. Hands down my favorite part of the show.

I second Sutton's emotion about one star for Hamilton. I saw it for the first time last month (and with an understudy on for Hamilton) and was like, 'how was I sitting on seeing this one for years?' Probably because I could see 5 shows for the price of 1 back then.

….All of this, plus what really threw me was the audience’s reaction. I was surrounded by boomers slapping their knees giving “Oh my gosh, I just can’t believe they put another song into this number!! How crazy!!” And then the singing along…. It was truly a night of cringe. Moulin Rouge is not even risque or artful for Vegas, although I do feel that is where is ultimately belongs.
