Hathaway is already too old for the part. These women need to read as 18 or 19 on screen. By the time this film goes into production (which is years away), the folks in contention for the part may even be people who have not had their big break yet.
The film will be cast with whatever young bankable ingenue (possibly Disney girls)is hot at the time. Think your Miley Cyrus,Hilary Duff, Ashely Tisdale, Vaness Hudgens camp.
The Wizard and Morrible will be cast with older actors that will bring in an adult crowd and are bankable overseas. Trust me, Streep will be a contender for Morrible and she would take the part in a minute because she will get a fat payday for a supporting role that is fun. The Wizard will be someone that will sell tickets overseas like Travolta or Hanks or Jim Carey.

I think that they could cast Adam Lambert as Fiyero. He has understudied the part, he has a good voice, and he now has celebrity power.
AAAuuuugh. Hasn't it been said that Schwartz STILL hasn't given his ok on this film???
I thought a film was locked in with the original Universal Production deal and the timing is up to the producers and not Schwartz? Im not sure.

i wish it would be:
Elphaba - Teal Wicks, Julia Murney or Marcie Dodd
Glinda - Emily Rozek, Emmy Rossum or Erin Mackey
Nessarose - Nicole Kidman or Briana Yacavone
Wizard - Bill Murray or Lee Wilkof
Fiyero - EWAN MCGREGOR!!!!
Morrible - Carol Cane or Glenn Close
Dillamond - ?
Ewan Would be an awesome Fiyero...hes hot and he can sing :) lol
Nicole Kidman as Nessarose? Wtf?
Not only is she too old, but it would be nice to have a Nessarose that could move her face.

I'm not totally into the idea of Wicked becoming a movie...but I just had a thought, Adrian Grenier (from Entourage) as Fiyero...

I reeeeally don't like the idea of Anne Hathaway as Elphaba, as much as I like her, that is just not good. I am intrigued by the idea of Diana DeGarmo. She surprised so many people with her theatrical roles...I think she's the only person mentioned I could even try to imagine taking on Glinda, actually.

Lol, that's the funniest post of the day
Just a little fun fact: Amy Adam's dream role is Elphaba. If they're going Hollywood, the faces of the characters might include:
Elphaba: Super-hit "Glee" star Lea Michele!
Glinda: Disney Channel star Annaliese van der Pol! (God help us all)
Nessa: "High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens!
Fiyero: "Super-hawt" Zac Efron! OR the kid from "Twilight"!
Morrible: Meryl Streep
Wizard: David Cassidy (for the moms that feel like they're getting dragged to a kid's movie. Which Wicked will eventually get turned into)
I could easily see "No One Mourns the Wicked" getting cut from the movie, and even the 2nd half of "Thank Goodness," therefore allowing someone famous and well-known to cover the singing aspect of Glinda easily. With that being said, it's possible Elphaba could be cast as a "newcomer", and all other supporting roles featuring known actors from Hollywood.

You know, they could always dub. I don't like when they do this, but it is always an option.
Of course they can, and it wouldn't surprise anyone. However, I have trouble seeing "No One Mourns the Wicked" fitting into a film adaptation of the show at all.
If they do dub it wouldn't be so bad if they found someone for Glinda who could sing, but maybe didn't have the range and just dubbed the higher more operatic moments.
A lot of the people getting "chosen" to play these roles sound like terrible choices to me.
Hathaway wouldn't be able to sing Elphaba's role to save her life, Rossum and Adams would be TERRIBLE choices for Glinda considering their vocal ranges are tiny compared to the girls who have played her on Broadway.
The producers need to find a couple powerhouses for these roles or else there will be a problem. Promise.

Yeah, but you didn't say that before. You said you think they should cut the songs in order to enable a famous actress to easily sing the part of Glinda.
Whether these songs fit into the film is another story.

Sorry! I guess my post wasn't clear enough... but I could see either happening. :)

Personally, I think they should cut ALL the songs and do a film based on the book. Not a movie version of the musical.

Glee is not a "super-hit". It hasn't even premiered.
Anneliese isn't the name you are making her out to be & she is capable of doing the role.
"Just a little fun fact: Amy Adam's dream role is Elphaba."
Hmm, especially after seeing Enchanted, I see her as more appropriate for Glinda.
I just can't wait for the apocalypse fits the fans will throw when the movie is announced.

I definately see her as a Glinda, but maybe she has a darker side that we haven't seen in her acting.

I know that; I'm not an idiot. I said that because that's the way it's being advertised and that's how they'd advertise Lea if she played the part in the movie (which I doubt they would anyway). That's Hollywood.
