I know there is already a thread on the subject but I had to post my cast.
Elphaba-Anne Hathaway
Glinda-Kristen Bell
The Wizard-Steve Martin
Madame Morrible-Blythe Danner
Fiyero-Someone who is known in the film industry but is not yet a household name
Nessarose-Natalie Portman
Boq-Justin Long
Doctor Dillamond-Simon Callow
If you knew there was another thread, why didn't you post it on the other thread??
There is no need to be rude to this new poster.
It sounds like a great cast!
:)
People here are just mean, don't take it personally
:)

Because he HAD to.
adamgreer, I think I love you.
Annas Priest- I was not being rude. The reason there is a search button on the main board is to find old threads and either find new information or continue the thread, not to make threads upon threads about the same subject.
I was going to mention something about search, but what I wanted to say has been said.

I really hope they DON'T cast movie stars. Wicked can probably sell itself without big Hollywood names. They should stick to people who can really sing...even if they're not that well known.

LOL, for real? Wicked wouldn't sell two tickets without big Hollywood names.
blaxx- For as much as I agree with you on other things, I have to disagree with you on this one. I think Wicked is a pretty much well known musical and once they put on it "the untold story of wizard of Oz", I think it will be successful.
They thought Phantom would sell itself based on the title, too.
For fun:

Loves, stop being so cute or I'll pinch your cheeks until they turn purple.
This is Hollywood. The producers would expect to triple the movie's investment on the opening weekend - casting Who? Jones and Nobody Smith in the movie, with their glorious singing voices to glorify Schwart'z grandiose masterpiece score would not get them money to even buy popcorn.
I wouldn't mind Hollywood stars, as long as the singing's good. Whether that means dubbing or electronic help, so be it.
One of the reasons I'm so disappointed with the Phantom movie is because even with all the electronic enhancements, Emmy Rossum and Gerry Butler are so obviously NOT singers. Thank god they had the sense to cast Patrick Wilson, a trained and experienced stage singer, as Raoul, or I might not have been able to make it the whole movie.

HollyGolightly2, You may not have liked Emmy Rossum in Phantom but I don't think that warrants to say 'she is not a singer'.
Any film of Wicked would be extremely expensive, and no producer would take that risk without bankable stars.
My cast:
Elphaba-Anne Hathaway
Glinda-Amy Adams
The Wizard-Kevin Kline
Madame Morrible-Kathy Bates
Fiyero- Justin Timberlake
I really hope that Anne Hathaway is not cast as Elphaba.
Seriously, why is Anne Hathaway brought up every time there's talk about a movie musical? It seems like she's suggested for every single musical film. Nothing against her or anything, but by the time the Wicked movie gets going I think she may be a little too old to play a college student.
As for Meryl Streep as Morrible, I doubt she would take it as it's a small role with almost no singing.

That's true. If the Wicked movie doesn't get made for years, which is likely, the candidates for Elphaba and Glinda are probably not even on out radar yet. I wonder if Diana DeGarno might be a big enough star by then to be considered.

OK, one token big name movie star would be fine and Meryl as Morrible would be perfect since, um, there's "almost no singing" required, which is kind the point. It's a cameo role, or would be for her anyway, so it's doubtful she'd take it, but if she did, she would be perfect. But they need to stop with the movie stars there. She alone would be enough of a big name draw.
After that, why not go for actresses who can really sing instead of sticking with those who's voices need to be whipped into barely passable shape in a recording studio and then dubbed in (and I'm talking about you Mamma Mia) Instead, why not pick some fresh faces. There are already plenty of them right now, on and around Broadway or in various Wicked companies, not currently known outside the theater community, but with a proven record in both acting AND singing, and with great potential.
Wicked already has a huge fan base that doesn't depend on name recognition to sell tickets. One big name is enough. After that, let's go with some new (new to Hollywood anyway) talent. There's a whole lot of it out there, trained, talented and ready to be discovered.

You so don't know Meryl Streep and her work. She would grab the opportunity to play a small featured role in an obvious blockbuster film musical as quickly as they offer it to her.
Meryl isn't too big to play a great small role. She's done numerous supporting roles in countless films. WICKED: The Movie Musical wouldn't be her first or a rarity.
