NBC/Universal/Comcast $500,000

While I applaud the money itself, this is a shameless ploy for publicity for their new "Rise" program. It's staggering that the money NBC/Comcast/Universal...not to mention the Hulu/CoziTV...and more ownerships they hold..., well they are "gifting $500k"? Give me a break; they make that much money every hour (if not every minute).

Giving them the publicity is just what they want BWW.

Really....where is money from CBS, HBO....etc? Let's not berate good things.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Thus proving the old adage that no good deed goes un-bitched about on BWW!!

My first sentence of this post complimented the couple of billion dollar empire NBC/Universal/Comcast/Hulu/Cozi/USA/Bravo/E/etc...for their gift $500K gift (designated and divided among several schools and states)...

So, now, while I may be mixing metaphors, if the RTump Org. wanted to give you or your school $500k, would you accept it?

Geez, the kool-aid must be very tasty to some of you guys

Steve, the $500,000 is not the extent of their entire charitable giving as a corporation, it's just one instance of it. And to be honest, someone with little knowledge of another person's or company's financial position and charitable giving talking about how much they "should" be able to give or how they should spend their money is kind of off putting.

You can't praise them with one hand and then smack them with the other. Their money isnt tainted, wouldnt you take it?

I don't see what this has to do with accepting ( or not) money from trump.

The OP is mad because a huge corporation is donating 500 grand to high school performing arts while at the same time promoting a new show about high school performing arts? The same tv show that is probably giving employment to many high school performing arts alums? Sounds like a win-win to me. If the show is successful, perhaps they can donate more, and make high school theater even more popular.

The OP would have us believe that we have to see NBC's taxes before we can think it's a cool thing to do. So what if they can afford to give 500 million? I only wish they had donated it to my school.

And did the OP ask the board if we would accept money from Donald Trump in an attempt to draw a parallel between NBC and Trump? And the OP did not use ANY metaphors, let alone mix them. The word you're looking for is analogy, not metaphor. And then the Kool-Aid thing? That's just a bizarre cliche. What Kool-Aid (meaning to say that we are eagerly buying into something without thinking it through) are we drinking? Because we aren't angry about NBC giving high school theaters money in order to promote their new show about high school theater? I'm confused.

Hey Uncle Charlie, thank you for your thoughtful and intelligent response to my post. I believe you totally get what I mean and what I meant. You provided me with additional info and facts that support NBC's intended "PR"...(personally, would I accept $$ with a caveat of "NBC Presents"? I guess so... I can't say the same for my other comparison...) I appreciate and thank you, Sir!

Again, it is gratifying to know other BWW members can and do understand and present other POV's as we educate each other. We just have to tolerate the melting snowflakes and habitual whiners found in all walks of internet life.

Even a fraction of the $500,000 would mean so much to so many schools, so I applaud it - even though I understand the sentiment. I mean, they could have just used $500,000 in advertising and billboards, but at least they are helping someone.

But apparently, thanks to Steve C., no good deed goes unpunished. Steve is despicable and should be ashamed for his misguided criticism. SHAME ON HIM
