i think Bardem would be FASCINATING on film as Guido. I am sad that Penelope Cruz is not on this list. I think even Emmy Rossum would be better than Hatthaway as Claudia.
Rose McGowan doesn't have a signifcant film career...I can't imagine she will be anywhere near the movie.
I'm sure they'll make this a multi-ethnic cast - and there are lots of fabulous people to choose from. And I'd much rather see Angela Bassett and Michelle Yeoh over Queen Latifah and Sandra Oh!

Michael Bennet, that rhymed!
Actually after watching Grindhouse (and this is coming from an avid Charmed fan), I realized once again that McGowan has the perfect looks and mystery for Claudia but she's just not an actress, I think. She'd be an interesting choice but still.
Anne Hathaway is probably being considered for Claudia, and in a way I see it though they should get a more seasoned actress like Cruz, someone that has been working with Guido for a long time and is old enough to decide that she's wasting her time with him and that she should move in with a 53 year old man instead. Perhaps I'm wrong and she is not being considered for Claudia at all. And Anne Hathaway can act AND sing circles around Emmy "no stage presence" Rossum.
I insist that Toni Collette would be an ideal Luisa and I'm so excited that Javier Marsdem is even being considered for this, they seem to be on the right track.
Hathaway just lacks the mystery you speak about that seems essential for Claudia.
I'm probably the lone person to think this, but I actually think Collette (if her performance in the WILD PARTY was any indication) would be a lot stronger as Carla than Luisa.
I could see her in either role, but I'd prefer her as Luisa.
regardless, Hathaway needs to be in a movie musical.
So does Cate Blanchett, Gwenyth Paltrow, Kate Winslet and Matt Damon who all have strong singing voices - but that doesn't mean they'd be right for NINE :)
Hathaway can play Louise opposite Streep in that Mike Nichol's GYPSY...
The thought of Nicole Kidman and Rene Zellwegger in this film just doesn't sit well with me. I don't see it, and I don't see how anyone else does.
I don't love Zeta-Jones, but I think she would be fine in the film.
A big YES to Hathaway, though I would like to see Blanchett in here as well.
Gwenyth Paltrow should do a musical, but not this one.
And I really hope that Marshall takes Cruz into consideration. I wonder if he reads BWW...
Yes to Hathaway for anything but Claudia.
I know the parts are being fitted for the actor playing them. But Claudia is supposed to be jaw-droppingly beautiful.
While I think Hathaway is very attractive, I don't find anything incredibly stunning about her.
Judi Dench as who? Lilliane? Oh God. Please no.
Catherine Zeta Jones would make a very good Luisa. Nicole Kidman would suck. I hate using that word, but she would. She would butcher her two wonderful songs. If I could cast this, with the people Harvey wants (and with a few wiser choices he may not want)-
Guido: Banderas (Oh if only Raul Julia were still here, even though he'd be too old.)
Luisa: Zeta Jones
Claudia: Paltrow
Lilliane: Lilliane Montevicchi- I have a feeling I butcheted that last name. My appologies. (Who cares if she's too old or not a big name? No one has done the song better!)
Carla: Hathaway
Stephanie: Kelly Rowan (Another "not a big name" and certainly a "what the hell are you talking about?" but for some really, really odd reason I can see her in this part. It's unexplainable.)
Guido's Mother: Judi Dench
Saraghina: Latifah
The more I think about it, Zeta Jones might be VERY good for Luisa. I can certainly hear her singing BE ON YOUR OWN.
I think Hathaway is all wrong for Carla. It's pretty obvious they'll be considering her for Claudia.
And in some strange way (as already mentioned) I think they may be considering Zellweger for Carla. Which COULD work, as strange as it may look on paper.
Zeta Jones has none of the vulernability for Luisa, but she'd look good with Banderas.
Liliane Montevecci played the role on Broadway 25 years ago. I'm sorry she is way too old for that role now.
Toni Collette would be great casting.
I agree that it would be cool to see Madonna in this--if even in a smaller role. Stephanie would prob be perfect for her if not one of the leads.
I'm probably gonna get smacked for this, but if she can act and you took away all traces of runs, it would be kickass to see Aguilera take on a musical. Maybe this one.
I think Grace Jones should have a cameo too! I want some bizarre Fellini-esque casting

My mind immediately jumped to Queen Latifah when I read this thread. This movie also needs Toni Collette and I'm not ruling out the hope of Jane Krakowski. Another crazy idea would be Raquel Welch (if the call is for talented sexy women), but I'm not sure how well she sings (as Liliane)?
"Liliane Montevecci played the role on Broadway 25 years ago. I'm sorry she is way too old for that role now."
25 years. My God. It doesn't feel that long ago. Now about the rest of your post...
How old was Chita when she did it? In her 70s. She was great. I think Liliane would be quite good. The role isn't written for a young, vivcaious thing. She could still do it. Doubt she gets cast though.
Montevecci is almost 80 now...
My only problem with Zeta-Jones as Luisa is that she doesn't ever strike me as "the forgotten wife" type.
What straight husband would forget her at home each night??? Even if they "plain her up" a bit (or make her "bookish"), I just don't see it working.
She's too lusty and beautiful for that role.
I wish I knew the show better.
Agreed completely Best12. As much as I'm beginning to tire of Toni Collette's uniform pumpkin face crying she does in every single role - she'd at least be vulnerable. I still think she'd be a riot as Carla though - she'd be genius.
"Montevecci is almost 80 now..."
Never mind. I thought she was younger. She is too old.
'I want some bizarre Fellini-esque casting'
What about Peter Dinklage as Guido.
And I'm only partially kidding. That is one damn sexy dwarf!
Would Banderas really be a box office draw?
There is no man right for the role who would be a true box office draw on his own. The women will have to provide the star wattage...
