Utterly amazing to me how many folks are willing to overlook a Governor covering up death numbers in nursing homes to try and hide his fatal “error”. It’s hypocritical and ridiculous to only attack Republicans, and as a lifelong Democrat, I’m disappointed to see how many folks aren’t willing to hold Cuomo accountable because of partisanship.

I’m referring to plexiglass barriers or any type of safety measures that would help protect actors, stage workers as well as the audience. I haven’t read anything about this but let’s hope they have a reopening plan developed! Am I being too optimistic?"
You’re being beyond optimistic. I’m in regular contact with several local 1 members at numerous Bway theatres. Nothing has been updated. Nothing. Now that there has been an announcement by the Governor that bway can reopen, the league will take over and work with the unions. This isn’t going to be an easy task to take on but I have confidence in local 1 if there is a good plan."
First, logically, there is no reason to think a "local 1 member" would be aware of what is planned. Second, there is no reason any steps would have yet been taken. Third, there is a lot of time between now and when people will be entering the theatre for shows. Fourth, during that lot of time, there will be a great deal of evolution of what is required for the same reason that if you look back three months and ask what is required you would get a much different answer. Sixth, there is a great deal being done to plan for a safe reopening, both on the theatre and production side and also on the union side. For obvious reasons, AEA is front and center in this work because its members have the greatest potential risk.
So much of what is written in this resurrection of this thread misapprehends a great deal, the most salient aspects of which are how much of the population has been vaccinated, and how much of the risk is eliminated by requiring a passport to get into a place of public assembly. As I and others have noted previously, this is not some complicated fantasy. We have been doing exactly the same thing at sports events this entire year, and without either bedlam or unsafety. Those processes will, on a much smaller scale, be achieved in theatres. These various recent posts are beyond naive.
@iluvtheatertrash Ihave not overlooked the nursing homes. I mention it in the other most recent thread on reopening. But I do not see how that has anything to do with anything in this thread. Cuomo has saved many lives and has provided incredible and important covid leadership, especially at a time that it was critical. He also made one terrible mistake and has tried to cover it up. That does not undo what he has done on covid. I have never been a cuomo fan and have only voted for him in general elections because I had no alternative but that does not mean he does not deserve credit for the good as well as condemnation of the bad. But still, none of this is relevant to this thread in any even remote way.

It just kills you that there are people who post here that work on Broadway and have actual 1st hand knowledge of what’s going on, and u don’t.

I’ve been a member of this board for about a decade, if not longer. And I’ve revealed my personal identity a number of times. And several members have met me in person. So, I don’t know what you’re going on about.
I stand by my point: too many of MY FELLOW Democrats don’t want to criticize their own but are outraged when Republicans constantly fail to do the same. It’s hypocritical. And frankly, makes you no better than the Republicans. New York deserves better than Cuomo. As a tax paying registered voter, I am welcome to that opinion.
If you’re going to accuse someone of being a fake account, at least do a little checking first so ya don’t wind up with egg on your face.

Huh? What on earth are you talking about? Stage hands don't know what's going on. Actors do not know what's going on? Do you think either of them have a seat at the table where these important subjects are being addressed? PS: you don't know what I know or why.
@iluvtheatertrash TBC I was not questioning your right to your opinion and I certainly was not supporting the nonsense about your bona fides on this board. My only correction of what you said is that, in fact, you have been a member of this board for much more than a decade, closer to two.

Lol! You’re wrong again! Please enlighten us with what u do again and how u “know so much?”

Why don't you start by telling me how I am wrong? You have no need to know what I do since I have not relied on any such knowledge. Other than the fact that you don't know what I know or why I know it, which I know to be true and don't plan to share with you. You are the one who relied on putative "sources," not me.

We’re still waiting to hear what u do...
my sources aren’t putative.
again, what do u do... enlighten all of us! U seem to be the authority on all things theatre....

what do u do? Usher? Failed actor?"
Who is this we? It seems awfully royal of you
If your sources are stage hands, they are putative because they are not "in the room where it happens."
You have no need to know what I do. Stop being nosy. Nothing I have said relies on a source. Stop deflecting. How am I wrong? I am certainly not the authority on all things theatre, but if you don't want to accept anything I offer here, begone. Your stage hand friends (if they are real) are just the same gossips they have always been.

Oh, Hogan, I was responding to N2Nbaby. Totally respect your point and I hear you. I just have been baffled by the fact that so many people seem to overlook a lot of Cuomo’s corruption over the years, and I just don’t get it. I don’t trust the guy, or his motives, and that was the point I was failing to make. My brain in these covid days isn’t what it once was...

You absolutely are, and I completely respect your opinion. That being said, the GOP has done so many more evil, horrifying things over the last decade so it's curious that because Cuomo was hailed at the leader during the early days of Covid for the entire Country who watched his daily briefings, these stories started coming out. Curious timing on that one, for sure. He's an awesome Governor and his professional life is my only concern. Do you think I care what Marjorie Taylor Greene's personal life is like? Nah. Just her disaster of a professional one. I am a lifelong Democrat as well and like most people will defend their own party first, but the GOP is just indefensible at this point.
I mean, he's an older Italian American and he acts that way. Arrogant yes, but he was pretty impressive during this past year, so that will probably win him another term.
Oh you can trust that his motives are entirely political. He is the quintessential political animal, and I don't mean that in a good way.
Re: "the GOP is just indefensible at this point." When the spawn of the GOP devil incarnate of the first decade of the century can't defend her own party (and is likely about to be kicked to the curb by it), you know you're right.
Enough on all this. Let's get back to celebrating the return of the theatre.
