Bryan Cranston* 's involvement hopefully spells a transfer so we don't all have to book flights out there.

Network is that rare film that has managed to remain timely since the day it was released over 40 years ago.

I wonder if this means the rumored Damn Yankees revival has been shelved.

What was the intended timeline of Damn Yankees? Was it supposed to be this year?

Damn the Yankees, I'm mad as hell and would rather have Network.

I'm not sure. It's possible that they might be planning for 2018, which could mean back-to-back productions for Cranston. That may not be something he'd want. But that's all just speculation on my part.

I'd shelve Damn Yankees, too, to work with Ivo Van Hove. Maybe if we're lucky, we'll get both.

Damn Yankees is a B musical that relies on the leading lady. Cranston would be wise to steer clear of it. Network sounds like a wonderful project all around.

I was thinking of the economics of a transfer, and as an expensive non-musical, it could be a difficult prospect. especially after he leaves following a limited contract. Then I thought again. Howard Beale could be played in many different ways and offers the meatiest bits of ham for any actor of a certain age (assuming they can carry off 8 shows a week in an exhausting role). Kevin Kline, Kevin Spacey, even William Shatner or Whoopi Goldberg. So it could get some longevity to recoup.
Diana is another meaty role - and, being non-musical, could be open to more actresses. And Max would be great for Nathan Lane (fits into his choice of role recently) or N.L. Butz.

Ivo van Hove is a judicious cutter.

Cranston is a good fit for the material, though I'm really curious to see what van Hove does with it.

If the National Theater announced this today, then they've been planning it for a while. We only first heard mention of a possible Damn Yankees revival this week. My guess is that they foresee the musical being on a later timeline.
Network will likely be one of those enormous cast affairs that virtually only the RNT can afford to mount-- that will make a transfer only likely if it gets out of the park reviews in London.

Having seen van Hove's NYC shows, this seems an odd choice for him. A little commercial? But curious to see what he comes up with. Hopefully it's smarter than The Crucible staging.
