New Boston Pre-Broadway Engagement

Emerson Colonial just announced on their FB a new Pre-Broadway Engagement is coming soon.

A funny revival by a prolific playwright..with two big stars...

Anyone have any ideas??

I'm guessing "The Odd Couple," but no clue who the stars might be.  Sounds intriguing though.  Hopefully a GOOD Boston tryout like "Moulin Rouge" not a BAD tryout like "Magic Mike."  For those here in Boston/Cambridge, it's great to see more out-of-town tryouts like the old days.

I also am getting reports of The Odd Couple - Walter Bobbie was in talks to do a female Odd Couple a few years back...perhaps this is it?

There’s a Neil Simon revival happening on Broadway in the Spring with a famous married couple that is not “The Odd Couple”.

They didn't say any specific date, just sometime this week.

If this is going to be a spring opening on Bway, I'm expecting this to play in late January or February. Jersey Boys tour is booked in mid March for a week, and Chicago is booked for May for a week as well. Id expect this to basically play the month of February at the Colonial. Unless they pull a Frankie and Johnny and go for a May/June opening, but I doubt that.

super exciting news if it's all confirmed and true.  never saw Plaza Suite but at one time or another caught the other suites - California, London...

interesting decision to do a pre Broadway in Boston (in the dead of winter???) right before heading down to Broadway. 

 

whatever became of the proposed RUMORS revival?

MB historically has trouble learning his lines, and SJP hasn't been onstage in a few years, so an OOT tryout is probably a good way to work out the jitters.

I'm curious about how a Neil Simon play will resonate in 2019...and also who will be directing/producing.

I have no info, and heard nothing, but this sounds like a Jerry Zaks show

Winter likely won't have much of an effect on sales. Winter doesn't really scare us honestly. Especially if this is only a 3-4 week pre broadway, should sell quite well actually id imagine.

According to their website, this is playing in Boston from Feb 5-22, directed by John Benjamin Hickey (Will this interfere with his part in The Inheritance at all?) and playing the Hudson in the Spring for a limited engagement, March 13-July 12.
