it is really cute and well done, quiet a few couples on date night amongst the familys, the puppets are fantastic as are the cast opperating/portraying the characters
and at an hour, what do you have to lose?
my only big issue, the stage is very low and wide, we sat second row and were looking between peoples heads in front of us, if you are taking little ones to see this, highly suggest sitting towards the back where the seating is above the level of the stage or the kids will have sightline issues
Am I the only one who feels supremely distracted by this type of puppetry with the person clearly seen in costume behind them?
I know it's been common for a while, but my focus gets very scattered looking at the performer's acting choices AND the puppet. Avenue Q didn't bother me as much cause it felt like part of the joke was seeing the people having hand puppets.
But stuff like this and even Olaf in Frozen, when the rest of their production is striving for a "reality" of sorts it just takes me out.
Although its being billed as a musical, there are only two full songs in the show-The Tigger Song and a number where Pooh, Roo, and Tigger bounce around...a few random singing lines here and there but that's about it...def not enough for a cast album. Also there's no playbills at all handed out. You can purchase a program tho.
Caught the 2 p.m. performance today (I live a 5 min walk from the venue, and it's only an hour long show). Definitely aimed at young children, but if you're a grown-up who loves the Winnie the Pooh characters, it's sufficiently charming. The theater is small enough that you can sit in the cheapest possible seats and be just fine. I thought Jake Bazel, who plays Pooh, was by far the most impressive - he really nails the voice and is also a really good puppeteer. Chris Palmieri as Tigger was also very funny. For those who are curious/cautious, masks are required for ages 2+, ages 12+ all have to be vaccinated, and those under 12 all have to present a recent negative test - they even had free onsite rapid testing for kids prior to the performance. They also are deliberately not selling all seats.
Can anyone report on what merch is being sold and prices? I like to budget before I head to the city and I can't find anything for this anywhere. THANKS!
Was there Sunday. Plushies are available of Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger, and Piglet for $35 each. If you buy all four, it's $120. They have a hat, a t-shirt (not sure of the prices of these), a tote bag for $20, and a hardcover program book that includes the story/music/behind the scenes information for $20 (they did not have them in stock at our performance, but they had the option of filling out a Google Doc and paying for a copy to be shipped to your home for approx $8 shipping). Those prices do not include tax.
