'Something tells me this movie is going to be dark.'
That's my new favorite quote. I may even become my signature.
I take it this photo is from the scen where she gives him his razors back.
robbie...was that a compliment?
"Dark"
Do ya think?
I think this looks great! A whole different version of Sweeney Todd for the movie, and I'm very glad. It will free the actors up to "create" these characters from scratch. No imitations or preconceptions to inhibit them or hinder them.
I hope it works, and there's no guarantee, but it stands a much greater chance of succeeding this way. It "looks" like a movie. Definitely not a stage show on film.
I can't wait to see it!
Whoa... I like it.

Yeah, I'm assuming this is from "My Friends."
Defying- Both Sweeney and Sleepy Hollow have the same costume designer. Maybe that is part of the reason why they seem similar to you? That and also all Burton films have a distinctive look or feel. He's one of the few directors around who give a specific atmosphere to their movies. I mean, it's usually easy to know when Tim Burton has either directed or supervised a movie.
Let us not forget that we loved the pics of Phantom, and we all know how that turned out.
uncage,
I just thought it was kinda funny that you went out on a limb by saying you think the film of SWEENEY TODD was going to be 'dark'.
I, alas, was being snarky.
Theres a difference between a 'feel' of a movie and the theme and overal concept.
And you can get the feel of a film from one picture?
Im not the one that said there was a feel to it
I said it looks exactly like sleepy hollow.

Sweeney is also MUCH stronger material than Phantom.
It's got to be hard to really f*ck up Sondheim/Wheeler's work.
vfd88 - It was funnier the first time someone said it.
BobbyBubby---I agree to a point. But from the first time I saw Gerard as the Phantom, particularly the Red Death cotume from the masquerade, I knew something was "off." But Phantom's costume and art direction were the best part of that film. It's still beautiful to look at... just not to, you know, actually WATCH. The production stills are (mostly) great!
From this new photo of the Sweeney movie, all that I can tell, is that this is a fresh take on Sweeney and Lovett. HIS costume, much more than hers now, suggests the Penny Dreadful look (which is why I DO like the white shock of hair, the heeled boots, and the stylized vest and pants). And maybe I'm reading a lot into Lovett's "look," but as they say a picture paints a thousand words... I see a woman who is poor, but dressing beyond her station in life. She wants to make public impression, but her hair's a mess and her bosom is showing (with a touch of red undergarment?). They both look pallid and sickly. But intensely focused on the moment.
It looks like a movie... not a stage play.
It ain't over... 'til all these fat ladies sing, I realize, but what precious little we've gotten so far is whetting my appetite for more!

I need more pictures! This one is not enough!
Anyway... looking good so far. I'm still worried about Helena's singing, though.
Better quality.

Thanks for the pics! Am SO excited to see this. If it's as good as the Hairspray movie, then yippee-kay-yay!
DefyingEDCT - You have seen one picture and you are saying the movie is exactly like Sleep Hollow? Okay then...
Yeah, definitely not what I expected. I'm excited!
I did mean the feel/look of the movie. I still secrectly wish that Lauper could have played Lovett. Well I guess it is not a secret anymore.
Let us not forget that we loved the pics of Phantom, and we all know how that turned out.
Let us also not forget that Tim Burton is a FAR more acclaimed director than Joel Schumacher.
Joel Schumacher:
Batman Forever
Batman and Robin
8MM
Bad Company
The Number 23
Tim Burton:
Ed Wood
Edward Scissorhands
Beetlejuice
Batman
Big Fish
I love the way we're being slowly teased into an inevitable frenzy of anticipation. Well, I am anyway. This looks
