He was good as Jack. Gave the right emotions and he really had a good chemistry with the rest of the cast. His acting was good.
His voice isn't as strong/deep as Corey's or even Jeremy's. I didn't think any of the other Jack Kelly understudies really had strong voices, but I disgress. Adam seemed to have a hard time sustaining notes sometimes and even hitting certain notes. While I know that people said that Corey was just walking through the show towards the end, at least Corey was consistent in his singing.

Posted: 8/25/14 at 4:21pmI will be surprised to hear that no one from the broadway company will be transferring for the tour, but kudos to the casting team for finding a fresh new cast. After all, I did hear the closing broadway cast had lost some steam. But I would still think at least 2 or 3 members would be going on the road. Updated On: 8/25/14 at 04:21 PM

I was going to say....
I don't know where I gave the indication that "no one" was transferring. I have no idea what's going on with the cast - I just know about Mr. Kaplan's situation.

Posted: 8/25/14 at 4:42pmThat's why I said I would be surprised to hear if no one was going on the tour. Sorry if I worded that wrong. It wasn't you Liza, I just wasn't clear in my original post.

Posted: 8/25/14 at 5:00pmPretty sure no one from the closing Broadway cast is going on tour because they had auditions before they announced closing so the roles were already cast & the current cast weren't able to audition. Don't know if any of that changed since then, though.

Posted: 8/25/14 at 5:30pmSince I know for a fact that Mr. Kaplan auditioned for the tour and was being considered, that's obviously not true. sorano probably just miswrote.

Liza's Headband, it's a little uncouth to keep mentioning Adam Kaplan's failed audition - especially if you learned about it through work. Four times you've said it now.

Saw Newsies Sat. night- really great! It was the 6th time for me. A few things-
1- Cott didn't walk through the role at all, he left it all on that stage- granted the audience was crazy and it was the second to last performance, but he was on fire!
2- when asked at the stage door if he was going on tour, Kaplan's response was "I'm not allowed to say" which contrasted to,
3- the Guzman's both stating no they were not doing the tour.
Take it for what it is, but I'd be shocked if some of them do not tour.
4- saw all the jack Kelly's except for Mike Faist, who I really wanted to see, and I think he'd be great on tour, his audio is on YouTube, he sounds powerful.
5- I liked Kaplan as Jack, granted it was his first time on without a put in and they held house for him, but he was really great. Only a few prop issues, but sounded great and was very charming.
I'll miss this one! Really was a great hopeful piece with a lot of heart, every time I saw it I was impressed, but I haven't been back until Sat. for quite a few months. Can't wait to see how the tour shapes up!

I didn't say that they were forbidden; they could've audition, such as the case of Adam. I was saying that if a closing cast member wanted to audition *after* they announced closing, they couldn't because the tour cast was already cast.
I mean, if you were in a Broadway cast with a Broadway salary in the show that didn't look like it was closing any time soon, would you go audition for the national tour that's on a tiered contract? Of course, that changed when closing was announced & the tour cast was already set.

Yes, some would.
I know for a fact that some people on a tiered tour of a hit show made notably more than Broadway minimum on the road as their base salary.
Even if you make closer to the tier minimum, with producers providing housing and your per diem, your weekly take-home pay could be equal to or exceed what you would have if you stayed in NYC on a basic ensemble contract and had rent and bulls each month... Especially if the tour had weekly overages resulting in profit sharing.
Some people just also love to tour.. To get paid to see the country.. And would readily lose a little money each week to be able to see the country for free.
