Oh my GOD.

Was not expecting this (her returning to Broadway alone, let alone in this role) but I may or may not see this several more times. I adored her in Wicked, and she actually performed with Joey a few times as an Elphaba understudy! What a cool reunion.

Betsy Wolfe has been on the tour playbills, posters, etc from the beginning and she’s never been even slightly affiliated with the tour.

on a side note, Torns will now have played Jenna a total of 18 weeks.

Am I correct in assuming that’s not counting the individual performances she filled in for as a regular understudy? Are those just the times she was scheduled to be on?  Or are you counting the unexpected understudy days as well. Just curious. Thanks.

First, YESSSSSS!

Second, off-topic b/c I don't want to bring back a three-year forum. I just came back from the TheaterBoards (UK) thread of the Waitress previews and our BWW thread of the Waitress previews. It is so interesting while we praised the show, TheaterBoards is panning it, calling it too "sweet," too "American," and too much like a sitcom. They especially hate the Dawn/Ogie story and they are bashing the hell out of Jack McBrayer's singing voice.

I always feel like Waitress itself never knows until they actually officially announce it lol!

Talking of casting drama, Waitress London outdid Waitress Broadway yesterday when it comes to making a mess of marketing and casting announcements, by having Lucie Jones make her Jenna debut (as cover for Kat McPhee’s vacation) before she’s even been officially announced as the new Jenna, and a month before she’s officially meant to start (assuming it is her)! This led to mass twitter hysteria with people shouting at Waitress for disrespecting understudies and then fuelled rumors that Kat had left for good and wasn’t coming back, leading to Kat herself then having to reply to a fan demanding answers to say that yes she is coming back, and Sara replying to another irate fan telling them they respect understudies immensely and it’s dangerous to make assumptions when they don’t know the workings of show! 

DRAMA!!!! 

I do feel like Waitress brings a lot of this uncertainty on themselves though!

Im so confused... what drama is there? An understudy went on? If she's taking over for Kat McPhee when she's done and is her understudy she can still perform before her announced taking over of the role...

Lucie’s not the understudy, but is apparently going to be the new Jenna when Katharine leaves on 15th June. It’s not been officially announced yet. But Lucie debuted as Jenna yesterday because Kat is on vacation for a few days without any sort of announcement (even though everyone had already worked it out) - so that’s why people were not happy at what they felt was a disrespect towards the understudies. I guess it was like a Pretty Woman type situation where they had Adam Pascal fill in when Andy Karl was away, instead of the understudy. 

Also, Lucie if you remember was the Jenna randomly on the posters in NYC with Joey McIntyre even though she never actually performed as Jenna on Broadway!

I was following all this on Twitter last night too! It feels like the worst kept secret if Lucie's actually going to take over soon. I saw that the reception to her first performance was positive though. I think a lot of us will be following developments over the next few days...

Just a thought: could they bring in Caissie Levy (who was apparently approached to replace) as Jenna? Gavin as Dr. Pommator and Will as Earl?

I’d pay regular price for a mini-Hair reunion like that.

I'm sorry--why does casting have to be a secret? There are plenty of people who aren't in the industry yet know people in casting so they know who the next Jenna is. Lucie drama aside, I really don't think it has to be unless they build it up as one. Which they haven't done as far as who will be Shoshana's replacement (yet).
