My dad, who grew up in China/small-town farmland California, and now lives in a suburb of San Francisco, and has never used a smartphone and sits at a computer maybe twice a year (to look at photos) figured out midtown's grid SUPER easily.
In London you can turn two blocks the wrong way and feel like you accidentally walked to Scotland.
MisterMatt, I MUST hear about this production of Show Boat because I can't picture such a big show in the Circle...unless it's stripped down? Show Boat is one of my favorites- any way they do it is good by me.

No offense.... but "50's" isn't old --- and Stevie Wonder would be able to locate 50th and 8th!
That "My parents are in their 50's" is like a knife in the heart, lol. And I would love to see Here Lies Love there or anywhere. Although Conrad wouldn't be able to do it.
Brilliant idea. This intimate play needs an appropriately sized venue to thrive.
Ado - It was at the New London Theatre, home of the original productions of Cats and War Horse. The set was like just the front end of the boat and the stage had a large thrust area that also served as the "dock". The boat set could travel downstage into the thrust area. When the boat rested upstage, the would drop in a scrim or other pieces, such as the Trocadero scene. It looked lavish and large-scale without actually being massive. And Rebecca Trehearn was perfection as Julie. I wish everyone could have seen her performance. Her "Bill" in context of the show itself, reduced me to tears. Show Boat has always been one of my favorite musicals, but this particular production was magical.

It would be an interesting little coincidence if a scaled down Show Boat played there, since the exceptionally lavish Hal Prince/Susan Stroman revival had a rather healthy (though, I recall, unprofitable) run just upstairs.
Show Boat in the Circle would be nothing short of glorious.

I would totally agree with this.
And I'll also add that the production at the Gershwin was equally so! Gretha Boston, Michel Bell, Rebecca Luker, and Elaine Stritch.....the whole cast.....just a super show! Beautiful.
