I say a play or limited run of a musical (charity) to fill the space before Once on This Island takes it next season. Circle in the Square is too out of the way and underground to attract tourists, so I worry that a new musical like Hadestown or Ride the Cyclone wouldn't sell there.

Yeah --- because that location has really hurt WICKED --- too bad none of the tourists have been able to find the Gershwin! What a ridiculous post, dianamorales!
Once On This Island is my favorite show, and the thought of it being in the round and close up like that makes me positively giddy. I hope it happens!
JSquared2, wicked is an exception to how many flops that have played the gershwin? Wicked is selling now, based on its name alone. When it first opened, it was anybody's guess if it would succeed there.
I wasn't able to find the theater until my 3rd time in new york. When my parents came for the first time and wanted to see wicked and I recommended in transit, they gave up after looking for an hour.
Dear God, anything but Ride the Cyclone! Hadestown is an interesting idea, I would love Night of the Iguana though. As others have said, Sweet Charity I think is waiting for the Fall- someone save Emily Padgett from the Chocolate Factory!

Your parents looking for an hour and still not being able to find it sounds a little hard to believe. It's really not that hard to find unless they were looking for 50th avenue and didn't want to get wet after they got to 12th.

How fortunate!
Yeah I don't mean to be rude but it's a grid system... it's all numbers... it's really not hard to find. And people found Spelling Bee there, Audra McDonald... they found Hugh Jackman...
What's needed for CITS: the immediate transfer of Seattle Rep's Here Lies Love! (tight after Ruthie is out of Sunday In the Park)

Well, we've found the problem. The "sing" sign is throwing everyone off. They thought it was an entrance to the subway. That must be why no one's going to see it.
I'm definitely hoping Hadestown can get in here, and CitS might be the best theater for it, hands down.
That being said, I wonder if we'll see a repeat of the Heisenberg/Great Comet strategy of putting seats on the stage. It could work at a small theater, like the Booth.

You would be surprised how many people can't find that theater. Many time I have directed people back to it after they have walked right past it.

It did.
My parents are in their 50s and from mississippi. The grid system takes longer than you'd expect in the busiest city in the world.
But they didn't...ask anyone? Or use a map?
Anyway, looking at the Here Lies Love pictures I can't quite tell the set up they used? Looks like there are platforms in the audience. I'd think they'd need a bigger space just because the cast is kinda large? But the Circle would be really cool for it.
I'd love to see the recent London revival of Show Boat in that space, especially with Rebecca Trehearn repeating her award-winning performance as Julie. Blue/Orange would be a perfect play for the space as well. I'm surprised it never received a Broadway production. And what about a possible revival of House of Flowers? I feel like there is a lot of potential for a lush and magical production in that space.

No offense.... but "50's" isn't old --- and Stevie Wonder would be able to locate 50th and 8th!

Agreed. I have helped people of all ages find things. They have had maps but were still confused. I was also when I first started going to NYC. I still need a map for some things and get confused on how to get there. It can be very confusing for visitors.
On my first trip to NYC, I couldn't find the August Wilson on the first try, but it didn't take me more than a few blocks to realize I just had to walk the OTHER way on 52nd.
Generally, if you can count, you can probably figure out this part of midtown, after a few missteps.
Let us not forget, Wicked is right there and doesn't appear to be having a problem attracting the masses. NYC can be hard to navigate, but us NY-ers get a bad wrap, we're pretty nice if you need directions- and don't walk 8 across a sidewalk, etc, etc, etc

No offense to you or Diana, but with a grid system in Midtown and an extremely developed mass transit system, New York is one of the easiest of the world's large cities to get around and find places in. If you don't believe me, try getting around in Bangkok or Beijing or Delhi or London or Mexico City or Tokyo or Sao Paulo or even L.A. and Chicago. And I can understand to someone from a very small town, New York can be a bit overwhelming at first but with maps on almost everyone's phones, while I can see walking by something once or twice before you find it, spending an hour and still not finding it seems a bit extreme. Though frankly, given the events of the last 6 months, almost nothing surprises me anymore.

I know this is a joke but on my way to Wicked my first thought upon passing Circle in the Square was "Hey, I didn't know there was a subway there! That's super convenient!"
Second thought: "Oh man, that's In Transit nevermind"
Third: "They really weren't kidding about the awful marketing"
