Circle in the Square is not a house for a large musical like Whorehouse. What about the production of NIGHT OF THE IGUANA slated for ART. That seems like it might come in if it gets great reviews.
Notes from the Field sounds most plausible to me. I can't see it being a smash, but it seems like it's been doing well at Second Stage. It's certainly timely and can't be much to mount, so I could see a limited run or something.
Having not seen it, Ride the Cyclone would surprise me. They'd have to restage at least part of the show if it's currently in a proscenium house, and I wonder if the show's producers would think it worth it given the iffy slate of reviews. But stranger things have happened.
what about that Diane Paulus musical Witness Uganda?
While I don't think Ride the Cyclone would do well commercially, I don't see why it couldn't work in the round, or even with the thrust In Transit is using.
It's a real shame there wasn't much talk of Hadestown transferring. It would work beautifully in Circle in the Square.

Maybe they'll surprise us and swing in! Who knows. I heard rumblings about it back when they were in performances.

I've heard, especially after Isherwood's review, that Cyclone is eyeing a transfer. From my perspective, having seen it twice already, it's in solid shape, but the beginning, as well as some aspects of the ending need work. The book could use some trimming throughout, and I think it could only benefit from taking some much needed time for revisions before transferring. Maybe the involvement of commercial producers and bigger money could help override the director's decision to cling to her somewhat subpar Chicago actors.
Directly regarding Circle, I heard rumor that Hadestown and In Transit had both been vying for the space this fall. Given the reception of Comet, I'd understand wanting to get another Rachel Chavkin production playing as soon as possible, but I've heard that she wants to hold off on Hadestown till next fall.
It's not that it couldn't work, but it's currently on a proscenium stage with a turntable. So, you'd have to redesign the show/redirect the show/restage the show for the Circle, which would cost more money. So it's not that it's not a good venue, it's more so, do they want to spend the money? Is it worth the time to reinvest/reinvent the show? It wouldn't be easy cut and dry type transfer.

Invisible thread? I would love for this to happen. It won't though.
Re: QueenAlice's comment about Whorehouse in the space. Who'd have ever thought Charity would find itself at the New Group venue? Stripped down musicals seem to be all the rage these days...
Ride the Cyclone already has commercial producers attached to the current production. That doesn't mean anything concrete, per se, but usually that doesn't happen without at least some consideration of a transfer.
I haven't heard one word about a potential transfer of the ART production of The Night of the Iguana. Is it even cast? That play is a hard sell in and of itself; I doubt it would come in without some reputable names and love letters from Cambridge.
That's true Ado Annie, but I would be very surprised to see a stripped down WHOREHOUSE on Broadway. The show doesn't allow its principal cast to double in the way that SWEET CHARITY's does. You could certainly do the show with less than its original 28 member cast - but not a cast of twelve or thirteen unless it were to be significantly re-written.
I don't think a cast has been announced for IGUANA yet, but it has Broadway producers attached so I assuming its eyeing a NY run.
Just to be correct, this thread is all just on speculation that In Transit closes in the near future, right?

Who are the producers?
I think people are speculating that IN TRANSIT will likely close in the early new year leaving way for another show to open by spring. It really depends on how deep the IN TRANSIT producers's pockets are -- this is also speculating that the reviews will not do much to boost ticket sales. Anything is possible.
Yeah, WHOREHOUSE needs ... whores. And Aggies.

CHARITY is officially unofficially looking at Circle. Question is if they are moving this spring or next fall. I've heard this spring. Folks on here seem to think the fall. However, if CHARITY waits until the fall there are several plays eyeing Circle.
I'd love it if a limited engagement of some play took the venue in the spring and then Charity took it thereafter, in the fall. The musicals competition this year is just so dense.
I'd love The Band's Visit to play Circle in the Square.
Is the diner still looking to transfer?

What about grounded? Is Anne free for the spring?
Is Othello a possibility?

Sam Gold is already directing two productions this spring- Glass Menagerie and Doll's House Part 2. Stranger things have happened, but I don't see how he'd have the time to stage Othello on top of those two productions. He'd also have to recast at least one key role, since Finn Wittrock is already committed to Glass Menagerie.
