i plan on going next sunday with some friends. since the box office doesn't open until later should we still get there early? I was thinking of getting there around 7am.
Honestly, I wouldn't think that the opening of the b.o. would have that big of a deal seeing how insanely early these folks are lining up.
When you have people going this early, they are "serial fans", not your average rush goer. (I dont' mean that with animosity, at all.) So the rushing and early hours are part of the experience.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I hope they change the policy to a lottery in the fall.
This is getting ridiculous (and shows no signs of getting any "better.")
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
It is really not ridiculous. Just get there early. I'm sure other rushes have been worse than this.
I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&.
"Jayne just sat there while Gina flailed around the stage like an idiot."
When I moved up here three years ago, Spring Awakening was DEFINITELY much worse than this. And when it was a rush Rent was much worse ~ I have friends who did that. And I have freinds who remember getting up at 2 or 3 for Rocky Horror rush. So it's not that bad. Like CS said, you just get there early. Nothing is impossible if you truly want to make it happen.
And ParisOriginal, your reasoning makes no sense as you wouldn't be able to go ANYWAY if you work in the evening.

jordangirl, I understand your point, but considering you've seen the show over thirty times, I think we know what your opinion is going to be on this.
I would certainly be willing to get up early if I wanted to see it (I did when I went in previews,) but I think a lottery would make the show more accessible beyond the rabid group that seems to be going on a semi-annual basis.
I'm not saying only repeat visitors are taking up space in the line, but I pass The Booth frequently in the morning and am starting to recognize the same faces time and time again.
If people have the dedication to get up early and do that on a regular basis, more power to them (as crazy as I find that to be,) but I think a lottery system would be more beneficial for a wider group in this specific instance. That's all.

somethingwicked ~ The number of times I have seen the show via rush is 8. 4 on Broadway and 4 at Arena Stage. The rest of the time I have paid full price or close to it. It's not the most convenient for me, but it does mean that when I want to see it, I can by making the effort. With a lottery, there is no guarantee.
And ParisOriginal, so request two days off in a row and rush for one of those. There are ways around it. I teach and am at school Monday through Friday. I can take a mental health day if I choose, but I'm still getting up earlier than I would if I was working, or I can get up early on one of my days off. Not necessarily my preference, but knowing that I will get a ticket to see the show that way, I'm willing to do it.

Ok, you aren't folowing it. I work evenings. On a regular night I go to SLEEP at around 5am. SO I would have to INVERT my entire sleep schedule to make the rush, or just stay up all day and risk falling asleep, and missing the show (or during the show).
jordangirl, that is why I said what I said- because you see it many times on a consistent basis, someone in your "position" would obviously be in favor of a rush because it's more "convenient" for repeat viewings.

Having to be there by 6 AM in hopes of MAYBE getting a box seat is ridiculous. So are the people who sit out overnight. I'm not a homeless person- I don't sleep on the streets, thank you very much.
I'm as big a fan of this show as anyone on the board, everyone knows that. But, this rush situation is out of control, and it's time to move to a lotto. Shubert Alley is spacious and would be the ideal place for such a thing to take place.
No one should have to be lined up at the Booth before the sun comes up to get rush tickets.

That didn't make Spring Awakening switch to lotto, SA was WAY worse Rush is great b/c if u get their early u are going to get a ticket, VS. Lotto you wait around all day till lotto time and if u don't get tix u wasted you're time. With rush as long as you're their early u can get a seat
A lotto works better for several reasons. For one, it's ridiculous that if your not there by six in the morning you won't get tickets. Secondly, a lotto is better for people who do not live in the city to get a chance to see the show from the front row or a box. Personally, I live in central Jersey and it is impossible for me to get a rush seat. It is definitely time to switch to a lotto.

I've said this many times. There should be a lotto. I won't go into it any further this time. Last time, a certain someone accused me of lying about having seen the show.

So you'd come in from Jersey not being guaranteed a ticket?

I've started just buying tickets to see the show in advance if I wish to see it. My friend and I tried it once before the rush got out of control. We got to the theater at 8:30 and didn't get rush tickets. Now it really is impossible to even consider trying.
