In a show where the 2 characters only interact with each other for less than 10 minutes - do the actors need chemistry with each other? Or do they need chemistry with the songs?
Given how many videos, commercials, and performances they've already given, it's very clear they want the audience to feel their chemistry, expect there is none. If you've ever seen this on stage, especially with people like Betsy Wolfe and Adam Kantor, you'd understand how important chemistry is in this show.

Didn’t think that could be as bad as the comments above suggested but wow was I wrong.

Of course they are going to perform to the cameras when on TV. They used mics on The Tonight Show - doubt they will in the theater. It's a different medium.
I know a lot of people who didn't like it at the Minetta BECAUSE the characters didn't interact.
We'll see and hear what they come up at the Hudson!
Absolutely. I look forward to Noah's performance.
I know a job is a job, but if I were Adrienne I would probably just have to walk out of this if that’s who they gave me for my leading man.

I totally get the importance of chemistry between your leading players in a musical, but this specific musical is very unique -- save for one scene/song, the two characters never directly interact with each other. Acting, and therefore chemistry, involves scene and partner work, developing a rapport -- but when the show is less than linear, and you really only "work" with your partner once in the piece, I'm not surprised a ...performer like Jonas is lacking in that department, at the moment.
