I'm getting the sense that they're going after the same audience as Romeo + Juliet. This is for the younger crowd, and I swear they're gonna have Nick Jonas shirtless in this thing for no particular reason.
I think I'm one of those fans of the show who will never be satisfied with anyone other than Sherie and Norbert.

***slight spoiler???***
Jamie is usually shirtless in “Nobody needs to know,” (as per the original, revival, and movie) due to the plot implications of the scene.
Jeez, y’all are hard to please. I think they both sound lovely.

Goulet, of course! He did the original workshop!
(fixed my autocorrect mistake)
I think Nick sounds fine here. His biggest problem is that they paired him with a powerful vocalist who will most definitely outshine him. Adrienne sounds incredible. Am I fully convinced that this part needs such a powerful vocalist? No, but I honestly don't care since I will be playing (half) of the inevitable album A LOT.
She sounds wonderful.
I thought he sounded fine in the beginning of the song. The option-up at the end is the bigger problem for me: he doesn't have the goods to do that and it would sound better without straining to hit the notes.
He sounds much better than he did in Les Mis...faint praise?

It's not just that he sounds bad.
It's why is this broadway now?
Why is it Nick Jonas sells tickets and not "Ya know who would be incredible as Jamie and could ACT it?"
Depressing

That's why the best version of The Last 5 Years, better than any stage performance, is just the album.
Hair and The Last 5 Years have that in common. Their original cast albums are better than any live production.

Watch any video or live clip - he always looks like he's straining to hit every note. That's just his style.
I'm looking forward to seeing him do the whole show.

The album is masterful. Sherie in particular exudes so much vulnerability, emotion, and humor. She has never sounded better than she did on that album and that is really saying something.
I’m not saying that the previous statements are wrong, I just wonder if someone was there to describe how magical (…or not) that original New York run was like. Especially considering what was happening in New York at the time.
Does the show work if the audience views it through a binary lens of “Cathy good Jamie bad”? That could be a test of this production. Because even if you view Jamie as a POS, they still have to meet in the middle and you have to buy their love story. And IF Jonas is not charismatic and likable and IF he doesn’t have genuinely good chemistry with Warren, it will be an obstacle to get the audience to care. [There are a lot of ifs and assumptions here, I admit]

It may simply be a title thing. Murray's role probably resembles that of a Music Supervisor, which often isn't the person conducting the show 8x a week.
Wonder if JRB will play/conduct the show from time to time?"
IIRC, Tom Murray conducted Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil when it was in Chicago. If it's still coming to Broadway this year (anyone know the latest on that?), he might be lined up to MD/conduct that show as well.

Could be any number of things. He's busy and in-demand and works often. Wouldn't hold my breath for MIDNIGHT, though...
If he doesn't want to play-and-conduct L5Y (that piano book is a beast), the show doesn't necessarily need a "stick conductor."
Perhaps unrelated, but there's a growing trend among music directors/music supervisors who do not want to conduct once they get to a certain point in their careers. They'd rather teach the show, supervise, maybe jump into the pit from time to time, and then move on to the next thing.
