I also love his bio pic since he's been buzzed for years. Quite the choice.
Adrienne sounds great in the music video, and the video further confirms Nick's inability to sing the score.
The lip syncing in the music video is truly atrocious.

Did I miss his understudy announcement?
Nope, it will be announced in the coming weeks.

Very interested to see who they cast to cover him. I'd heard rumblings about Adrienne's cover and if true, people may be even more excited to see her than Adrienne, particularly if they are fans of a certain unconventional production of the show that occurred a few years back.

Only way I'd see this is with Nick's standby.

OMFG!!! That production that you just mentioned is the definitive LAST FIVE YEARS, in my mind.

Is this the last West End version? Of the off-West End version with Samantha Barks(2016?)?

I worked on a project that Jonas was involved in a number of years ago and he was delightful, hard-working and a superb person to be involved. He wasn't the best thing about that project by any means, but being famous AND a strong team player with cannot be underestimated as a reason to have someone involved in something creative. I'm sure he will absolutely pour his heart and soul into L5Y. I also admire him as a pop vocalist.
There's a tendency in his vocals to go slightly nasal and "pinched" I guess - it's more prominent in I Could Never Rescue You, although the way his veins bulge out his neck in the Movin' Too Fast video makes me worry for his blood pressure - and he uses pop falsetto more than the big, open sound I associate with Jamie from performers like Butz, Kantor and Jordan from the most major productions/films of the show (I just listened to a bit of the bootleg of Jonathan Bailey in London, who is clearly not as strong a singer as any of the above but still sounds very much in the Butz/Jordan vein in particular; Kantor is more melismatic and neurotic with it). I'm not sure how I square Jonas's kind of performance so far with my idea of Jamie as one of those creative livewires bouncing off the walls of their own assumed greatness; I always see I Could Never Rescue You as an open wound of a song, rather than something that feels more like stoic resignation.
I know nothing about Adrienne Warren, who seems very talented and warm in these performances (both, interestingly, drawn from the "positive" half of the show); I'd love to see what she does with the more sardonic Cathy stuff in A Summer In Ohio in particular, and look forward to seeing how both of them handle the funnier storytelling numbers, particularly the duo of A Miracle Would Happen and Climbing Uphill.
Still holding out hope that the producers decide to do a couple of extensions with various Cathy/Jamies.
Any clues or hopes for the Jamie and Cathy standbys?
Jake David Smith, currently playing Marius on the Les Mis tour, would make a solid Jamie Standby. He also sort of looks like Nick.

I could also see Adam Levy doing a great job.

Someone said the Cathy standby is associated with a previous beloved but unconventional Last 5 Years. Using context clues, as I previously guessed, I think it’s Nasia Thomas, who previously played Cathy in the BRILLIANT broadcast production that was filmed live in a NY apartment during Covid.

They both sound woefully miscast in the video released today. Not thrilled with how either of them sound.
