another opinion I heard on tonight said that yes, she was insanely nervous, and her vocals were all over the place, but her acting was the best they`ve seen of any Elphaba.
Is Julie confirmed to go on February 15th or is it just her last day in the company?
It's her last day (along with Katie Adams) in the company. Her last confirmed appearance was Thursday night, but she'll surely be on again before she leaves.
Hasn't every Elphaba to date had a poor attendance record?
Recently, yes. Marcie's attendance was very good, but Kerry Ellis, Stephanie J. Block, and Julia Murney all had issues. The earlier Elphabas (Menzel, Shoshana, Eden) never had attendance problems.
Yeah, I seem to recall rarely Menzel, Sho, or Eden being out

Are you talking B'way Elphaba's? I think the Chicago Elphaba isn't out often.

Kristy Cates missed a lot, Dee misses every now and then, and Lisa missed due to what seemed to be a chain of bad luck.
Ana Gasteyer had good attenance in Chicago and on Broadway.
I was talking Broadway, the only production I'm familiar with. The only other production I've seen was Chicago, when I was out there for business once. The only u/s I had was for Glinda (Kate Loprest was on).

Elphaba3, I just came back to edit Ana in, I have no idea how I forgot.
adamgreer, I'm sure I've said it before in posts but you have no idea how jealous I am that you saw Kate as Glinda!
I would give Nicole Parker a break, as well as some time to settle into the role.
The reason her first performance was pushed back was because a movie she had worked on in Los Angeles required her to fly back to the West Coast for some last minute re-shoots during the middle of her rehearsal process for WICKED last week.
Because they didn't want to postpone her debut any longer than they already had, the production team decided to put her on tonight as re-scheduled even though she didn't get back into town from California until last night (which was even later than they had anticipated.)
Beside from her put in this afternoon, Parker hadn't had any rehearsal in over a week before going on tonight. Her extreme lack of advance preparation heavily contributed toward making her even more nervous this evening than she probably would have been under normal circumstances.
With time, I expect she'll improve vastly. She really knocked it out of the park at her audition and accompanying callback.

Also consider the fact that she's the only principal broadway Elphaba to ever play the part without any prior experience in the show.

At $126 bucks a seat, she should be ready to go from day 1. If she isn't, put the standby on, who is ready.
The vocals tonight were an absolute embarrassment.
somethingwicked, were you at her audition/callbacks?
adamgreer, you can blame the stage management team for that call, not Parker.

Julia Murney came right into the show, although it was the tour she came right in.
Hardly her fault when they put her in too early.

I'm talking broadway principal. Julia Murney is also a seasoned musical theatre performer.

..."seasoned musical performer"
Nicole has been on Broadway before. Alexia Khadime, played the role in London, without doing anything related to Wicked prior to it.
I'm assuming it's the same Broadway or not, being that it's the
same show.
According to a review on another forum, Nicole was amazing acting wise, and found her vocal footing by one short day. The cast at stagedoor stated she is the nicest Elphaba they have ever had, and all agree that she is the best actress they have had. Nicole stated to the poster to come back for a more vocally solid performance. So I think she knows she has work to do, which I am sure would have been fixed if she had gotten her full rehearsal period.
Every performer has that inevitable first night in front of a paying audience.

Again, I'm just talking broadway. If you want to look at every company, sure, there are plenty of people who have come into the show without experience. But they're also not staring in the most popular and highest grossing show on broadway, there's a little more pressure involved.
Also, there's a pretty significant difference between Nicole's one previous broadway credit and Julia's entire musical theatre career.

The West End has a lot of pressure as well, what makes it so different if it's the same exact role in the same exact show? Because you can't say the West End doesn't have less pressure than Broadway.

Putting her in the show tonight was not a stage management decision. The creative team would have made that call.

I'm sure there's plenty of pressure in the West End, but staring in the biggest show in the theatre capital of the world, a show that consistently sells at nearly 100% capacity, adds a significant amount of stress to the job.
Staring in the flagstone production of arguably the biggest musical theatre phenomenon in the last decade would scare anyone ****less, especially someone who doesn't have a specific musical theatre background.
Didn't your mother tell you it's rude to stare?
