Yeah same here, I mean how bad can Nicole be? I guess I'll find out tomorrow if I like her or not. I mean there are people who always don't like a performer, not everyone has to like someone. I was really hoping to see Marcie Dodd.
I'm seeing Nicole on Friday and will give my honest opinion when I get home...

Wow I was gone for a week and so many Julie haters came out of the woodwork since Nicole has been on. I'm seeing Nicole at 2pm next Wednesday.
I don't get where people think that Julie is whatever they said she is but to each there own.
As far as Nicole is concerned, I've loved watching her on MadTV for years. Not only is she a fantastic actress, but she can really sing. I, for one, was ecstatic to hear that she was taking over. It's a nice change from the strainers/pushers that constantly take over the role. (Eden Espinosa, anyone?) I haven't seen her, and I may not get the chance to unless she is contracted through the summer.
As for Julie, I saw her as Elphaba back in September of 2007 in LA. I was very underwhelmed. I thought that she was alright vocally, but as an actress, her interpretation was way too angry right off the bat. You can tell she has an amazing voice but the way she sings a lot of things is...strange. I don't even know how to explain it. She adds "uh" to the ends of words, and as a vocalist, I cringe.
Back to Nicole, I'm dying for some audio!
Incidentally, Marcie Dodd and Nicole Parker both play the early scenes much angrier than Julie does.

Julie is nowhere near as angry as she was before. Like adamgreer said Marcie is waaaaaay more angry than Julie ever was.

Why beat a dead horse? Julie Reiber didn't take over. Nicole Parker did. You don't have to like her, but I have no idea why she's being compared to Reiber by the same people over and over (actually I do).
If you are talking about me, Conor2, I only mentioned the comparison because someone else brought up that they thought Reiber was too angry (a valid criticism, in my opinion). I was merely stating she is not as angry as either Dodd or Parker in the early scenes.

I must agree that Marcie plays Elphaba angrier than Julie does.
I never got any clear focus of emotion from Marcie, whatsoever.
Val, I will be awaiting your review of Nicole where you slap her down every chance you get for not being Julie.

I don't where to put this and I don't wanna start a new thread so I'll just put it in here...
can anyone fill me in on all the bloopers from the January 14th performance?

WHY Elphaba is being played as angry is beyond sense. As I've said before, she is FAR more fascinating and easy to identify with when she is calm, mysterious, unpredictable, and sarcastic. As it stands, why would an audience warm to someone so angry?
Those first lines are no longer funny....they are grating.
Sure..
First of all, Jerad Bortz played Fiyero at the very last minute. Nothing on the board, no preshow announcement or anything. He was announced at intermission. Afterwards, someone in the cast said Kevin got sick last minute and had to leave. Jayne Houdyshell called it a "sign of things to come."
They had major sound problems throughout, mics going on and off, that sort of thing.
Timothy Britten Parker forgot his lines at the end of Something Bad. Jayne went up on a line somewhere, but I forget which one.
During Popular, the beds were off the track, and never "locked" into place. When Glinda's bed came out it was facing the wrong way. A stagehand ran out to turn it around and Alli said, "Look! A moving bed!" Then she yelled "Thank you!" as the stagehand rand off. Since the beds weren't on the track, they kept moving everytime someone sat on them. At one point, Julie tried to slide Glinda's bed back into place with her foot as she was sitting on it. Alli, between phrases in the song, said, "Good one!"
After the scene, the beds didn't move off, so when the benches rolled on, they collided with the beds. The cast tried to sit down, and it looked really funny seeing two beds in Dr. Dillamond's classroom. Julie and Jerad looked puzzled and didn't know what to do. Every one was kind of looking around trying not to laugh. Finally, the beds rolled off, and Dillamond said, between giggles, "Now, as I was saying, this is my last day..."

Julie will have nothing to do with my review(if I do one). If Nicole is good I will praise her and if she is not, well then I won't. I met Nicole already and she is a very nice person.

Because she's Julie Reiber, not Julia Murney. Acting comes easier to some. x

I find that hilarious seeing as how you're the one who first brought Julie's name into this thread.

I too think it's strange that there is no audio/video in circulation yet, but for those who haven't seen it here is a link to Nicole doing a Sarah Palin parody of Defying Gravity.

It's just a joke for the most part (Nicole does a Palin impression for most of the duration), but towards the end she brings out some big notes in her real voice.
On the basis of the video I was looking forward to seeing her on Feb 19th as I thought it showed signs of promise, but from what I've read on here I'm nervous now!

Her voice (the parts I'm assuming are her real voice) sound pretty mediocre, like a Wicked fangirl who can sing in tune or something. Her acting probably makes up for it, though.
Haha, not sure how accurate we can judge her voice from a Sarah Palin impersonation.
i know that video is meant to be funny, but i was not impressed with her vocals.
i'm still surprised there is no audio posted.
Yeah, you geeks out there, get on youtube now and start uploading us some Nicole Parker lol!!!!
Go listen to "A Wicked Memorial" (a parody of the high belting required of female leads in shows like WICKED) from the cast recording of MARTIN SHORT: FAME BECOMES ME and you'll get a sense of the real power of Parker's voice.
Can I throw my vote in that anyone performing on broadway, even if for the first time in the lead role, should be at least good, not acceptable, for the prices they charge on those tickets. It's not hard to find talent in NYC.
That is actually why I find it so confusing that so many people are being so critical of her. Would they really have cast someone so horrible? I think they would have used your logic in the casting... and if not... umm... not good.
