Roger Rathburn did one more musical to date in 1981 entitled THE FIVE O'CLOCK GIRL that ran on Broadway for 14 performances. It was originally a Goodspeed Opera House production. It had a score by Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby.
Thank you Rose Sayer, I knew it was something like that.
My cast for a revival of this:
Sue: Debbie Reynolds or Julie Andrews (it doens't have to be a dancing role)
Jimmy: Robert Morse
Lucille: Karen Ziemba
Billy: Michael Beresse
Nanette: Jessica Grove
Tom: unsure, Aaron Lazar maybe?
Pauline: Elaine Stritch or Leslie Uggams
Both Debbie Reynolds and Julie Andrews know how to tap.
Reynolds can do much more than just tap.
I know that, but that's all that's called for in the role.
OHMYGAWD!!!!
Not to threadjack again, but we have had five wonderful, whimsical, witty pages of musical theater dialogue , fun, nostalgia and longing without one mention of Idi---
She who must not be named.
I am thrilled.
Soindheimfan2 - The ONLY version that is readily available on CD is the 1971 revival with Ruby Keeler and company. Get it. It is a must have. (And the Sony re-mastered CD includes some nifty bonus tracks that were not on the original Lp release.)
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
inlovewithjerryherman - Elaine Stritch or Leslie Uggams as Pauline? No way on earth can I see Leslie Uggams as Pauline ( I don't think Leslie could either). Julie Andrews might make an interesting Sue. Hey, she who can't be named could be an interesting Betty from Boston.
Cloris Leachman as Pauline!
Or Joanne Worley?
Or is Allyn Ann MacLerie still ambulatory?
Worley! BRILLIANT!!!

Another enthusiastic vote for Joanne Worley!
With such dynamic performers as Debbie Reynolds, Michael Berresse, Karen Ziemba and Ms. Worley - What an incredible energy this revival would have!
Let's keep this thread going until someone produces it!

How could I forget Robert Morse? - The perfect Jimmy Smith - He'd be so loveable! Updated On: 7/2/06 at 10:59 PM
I'd really like to have Raoul Pene du Bois' sets and costumes in this production. For me it isn't NANETTE without them, also can we have two 9' grand pianos in the pit like they did in 71?
yeah leslie uggams was a weird choice.

Amy Spanger is too young but one day she will make a kick ass Lucille.
I also just wanted to jump start this wonderful thread again!
So we've pretty much cast Sue, Jimmy, Lucille, Billy and Pauline but how about Nanette, Tom, Flora, Betty and Winnie? Any suggestions?

John Driscoll from GUIDING LIGHT, as Tom. Very good singer. Perfect Tom; and, a friend of mine!
Works for me!
Disclaimer: I don't know this show. I'm just playing along as some of my favorite posters are so passionate here. I am loving the casting suggestions anyway.
Oh my, Rath! What a truly wonderful show, not to know. Now, if we just had the cash to do it, with this cast, then you'd see how great it was!
I'd be at the first preview!
In response to altarego, I already said I think Jessica Grove would be a fantastic Nanette.
