Remind me who Jessica Grove is please. Yes, John Driscoll gets my vote for Tom.
Rath, you need to get a copy of the 1971 revival cast CD, and soon.
Yes, sir, alterego, sir!
I saw Jessica Grove in recent Goodspeed production of THE BOYFRIEND, as Polly.
You can't wait for this cast CD to come out!
Ha! You have a very valid point, my man.

John Driscoll as Tom and Jessica Grove as Nanette - Adorable!
Megan Lawrence as Winnie or Betty - She's so talented!
Polly eh? - sounds perfect. Unless we have any other suggestions, i think we can consider her cast! I do hope some enterprising producer is reading all this.
I think that Megan Hilty would do terrif as one of the three "wards". (She's a bit too "Cupie doll" to be Nanette. And I don't mean "Cupie Doll" as an insult.) If she wouldn't consider it a step down from being the third replacement lead in a hit show.
I'll take JohnBoy2's word on John Driscoll as Tom. He's certainly easy on the eyes.
Yes, Elaine Stritch would be divine as Pauline. But she's too big a talent to waste in such a small part. It would be like asking Rembrandt to paint the label of a pickle Jar. Not to say that Kaye Ballard is any less of a talent, but she has already played the part for Goodspeed.
And I would say that if we go in for color-blind casting, Leslie Uggams would make a good Lucille. She may be in her sixties, but looks fifteen years younger, at least.
Kaye Ballad is fine by me for Pauline, however I can't help but think that Rosie O'Donnell for the role might bring in a different demographic (and remember she doesn't have to sing!).
Well, Kaye Ballard is certainly a bigger talent than Rosie O'Donnell (whose talent still escapes me); but I suppose she could pull-off Pauline.

I have GUIDING LIGHT on and Mr. Driscoll just showed up at a Fourth of July barbecue in a bathing suit! - Easy on the eyes is an understatement!
Pat Carroll would be a brilliant Pauline - Does she still work? I haven't seen her around since I saw her in ELECTRA in 1999.
I played Nannette when I was just 20, so it was a few years back.

Jessica was actually cast as "Nanette" in a regional production for last summer, but had to turn it down for THE BOY FRIEND. I believe No, No, Nanette was at NSMT last summer - not sure who assumed the role when Jessica bowed out, though. I agree she'd be great in the part!

I believe Pat Carroll is still with us. I'll check and make sure.
Another question, give the project to a new director and choreographer to work their wonders, or try to re-create the original revival with the Raoul Pene du Bois sets and costumes and all?

I'd love to see the 1971 sets and costumes recreated, however I could go with another designer providing they can work with Raoul Pene du Bois colour palette (particularly Act 2).
Did the Broadway revival have a splashy vivid orange/red/purple/blue/black art deco show curtain as we had in Australia?
I've not seen THE DROWSY CHAPERONE (only on the Tony's) but has anyone else noticed how similar the reporters costumes were in Show Off to NANETTE's Act 1 girls outfits?

I just hope whoever helms our dream cast revival does it with the same affection and wonderful attention to detail. The 1971 production, however is a very tough act to follow. I can still after all these years, vividly recall how magical it was!
I have only the Australian production to recall, a reproduction of the Broadway 1971 revival to recall but I second your thoughts.
Would you please post the Australian cast?
SHAMELESS BUMP
altarego, you can hear Jessica Grove (albeit a much younger Jessica Grove) on the Madison Square Gardens recording of The Wizard of Oz with Eartha Kitt and Mickey Rooney. she was Dorothy. She's really quite divine.
Mary Testa's another one to consider for Pauline.
inlovewifejerryherman - love the idea of Mary Testa, here's another - Doris Roberts.
Here's another possible choice for Lucille Early - Christine Ebersole.
Rath, I wish I had some photo's of the Australian production to show you other than Cyd Charisse, at left. ( I doubt the chorus would have thrown Ruby Keeler aloft like that!).
