In the Australian version of the '71 revival, Paul Wallace, the original Tulsa in GYPSY on Broadway, played Billy.
Cyd Charisse, later replaced by Yvonne de Carlo, played Sue.
Jill Perryman, the Australian star of FUNNY GIRL, CARNIVAL and I DO! I DO! played Lucille.
Bobby Limb and Rosie Sturgess, Aussie TV stars, played Jimmy and Pauline.
It's okay, alterego, I was asking for a cast listing, not photos.
Thanks, wildcat. I've heard of Jill Perryman. And it's interesting that you had those non-Australians in the cast as well. Is it that there weren't Aussies available, or that they thought the international actors would sell more tickets - and yes, I cringed as I typed that.
The Australian Production of NO, NO, NANETTE opened at Her Majesty's Theatre Melbourne Saturday 25th June 1972 where it played until late January 1973, the show then toured to Adelaide, Sydney and Auckland New Zealand where it closed in November 1973.
Cyd Charisse replaced the originally announced Betty Grable who pulled out of the production due to illness (cancer, of which she passed away the fllowing year). Williamson -Edgley Theatres, the producers then sought Ann Miller, she declined as she wouldn't put her dogs into quarantine for six months so we ended up with Cyd Charisse for the first five months and the Yvonne De Carlo for the remainder of the tour.
Paul Wallace (Billy) left the show in December 1972 and was replaced by Kevan Johnston (husband of Jill Perryman) for the remainder of the tour.

alterego - Did you get to see Yvonne DeCarlo? I always liked her.
inlovewithjerryherman - Mary Testa would make a wonderful Pauline - Great choice.
I saw De Carlo in FOLLIES, which was one of my favorite nights in a theater. I really like our NO NO NANETTE cast and am sad that it isn't a show we can actually see!

JohnBoy2 - So glad you enjoyed Yvonne DeCarlo so much in NANETTE. I've always felt she was terribly underrated.
I know this thread is somewhat frustrating as we have this great cast with no planned production. I literally just saw Debbie Reynolds belting out a tune at some recent function on THE INSIDER. She looked and sounded great. I know I've said this before but we really have to pray some producer reads this thread and brings back this wonderful show.
Debbie Reynolds.
Say it loud and there's music playing!
Yvonne de Carlo did bring some strange moments into NANETTE when she joined the cast. As she wasn't known as a dancing star she interpolated "More Than You Know" into her first scene. It was a little odd to hear the character of Sue belting a torch song so early in the proceedings.
Also, at one rather quiet matinee, she was irritated enough to add one of her lines from FOLLIES when she entered the final "Take a Little One Step" scene. Standing centre stage she looked around her and growled, "What this party needs is a good kick in the ass."
The poor matinee ladies didn't know WHAT was going on.
When does your book drop, wildy?
Rose, I didn't see Yvonne in NANETTE, I saw her in FOLLIES. But yes, I enjoyed her, immensely.

I just realized JohnBoy2 saw DeCarlo in FOLLIES,not NANETTE - Sorry,Middle-aged moment!
Wildcat - Your DeCarlo NANETTE story is hilarious!
I saw Yvonne de Carlo in NANETTE four times, she was good fun. When she joined the cast the critics agreed she was what the show had needed from the beginning as Cyd was considered far too serious a dancer for the part.
Further to Wildcat's story when Yvonne joined NANETTE she wanted to sing 'I'm Still Here' (!) from FOLLIES which she had just finished. It took some convincing to get her to sing 'More Than You Know' instead.
Cyd wasn't much of a singer and she ripped through the lyrics of 'Take A Little One Step' at a rapid pace.
Our star Debbie Reynolds is performing in Melbourne in early August at Her Majesty's Theatre where NANETTE played. Spooky.
*books ticket to Melbourne*
Scouting purposes.
I'll be looking at her for that very reason! lol
Make sure you write off your ticket!
I'm secretly hoping she'll sing 'Alice Blue Gown' from IRENE, but that's a whole other revival.
We can do that too.
I'll cast her in anything.

I'm thrilled with all the love for Debbie Reynolds! I saw her in IRENE three times!
alterego - If you go to see her in Melbourne, try to meet Miss R. and pitch NANETTE to her!
Yes, alterego, we're all counting on you!
Ebersole doesn't have the dancing chops for Lucille, does she?
I'm still sticking with Karen Ziemba.
I'm seeing "our" Debbie in Melbourne Rose Sayer, I'll pitch if you can get the money! Updated On: 7/8/06 at 02:13 AM

Oh alterego, how I wish I had the money to produce this dream revival! Maybe Miss Reynolds can get her daughter,Carrie Fisher,to kick in a few bucks from her STAR WARS residuals!
By the way, Debbie R. is brilliant in concert. One of the sharpest wits in show business. Does some amazing impersonations, especially Zsa Zsa Gabor and Mae West. You are going to have a blast!
Maybe someones memory will be jogged by this thread, who knows. I'll will be in attendance opening night!
I read that Debbie is adding her Dame Edna impression for the Australian tour. Seriously!
Forgot another story about Yvonne de Carlo's NANETTE season. She had a flaming love affair with the son of a local mafia figure and when she broke it off she was terrified that a 'contract' had been put out on her by the vengeful father. One night in Sydney in the middle of a scene a car backfired outside in the street and Yvonne literally flattened herself against the back curtain, thinking it was the expected 'hit'.
