I would like to point out that when I joined this board in its infancy many years ago, people were WAY nicer to each other. It was just a bunch of theater nerds having a good time together. Now we have some truly vitriolic posters and trolls, and it's just not the same.

This also includes some truly self-righteous jerks who are clearly looking for an outlet to express their moral outrage at anything that can be even slightly construed as "unwoke" or "racist" in order to feel about about themselves. It's just gross.

wait wait I think I have a solution that will appease both us posters and the shareholders of BroadwayWorld:

Mr O'Brien's decision is as idiotic as turning down the great taste of Diet Coke™! Taste the Feeling™!

I don't see the point in being nasty. Especially on a chat board. Promote positive vibes people.

You are looking at the past through rose-colored glasses, The Distinctive Baritone. This was not a friendly place to be a new member and if you didn't become part of a clique quick, forget it. People were vicious to each other. Certain people would be singled out and ganged up on. Daily and nasty feuds between certain people, in which some truly hateful things were said. It could get scatological. Somes posters LOVED when an unliked poster had a "meltdown", and even had a scale for it (which probably still exists on the off topic board. The current state of the board might be less exciting but it's healthier .

There were always racists (remember that crazy racist guy who used to write awful songs about young women, celestial objects, and white supremacy? The Disappointed Democrat, who was neither, and had the whole off topic board in an uproar, and a BWW poster later doxxed an innocent person, thinking it was him? I am deliberately not naming names, but all of that happened).

Ah, topic...Yeah, I think cutting the final scene was a bad idea.

With all due respect BC, the word "considerable" does not imply that you purchased a discount ticket. My immediate thought when reading your comment was that you paid top price or premium.

Also, I agree these boards were not as bad when i joined about 13 years ago. There were many times I could read a thread top to bottom for many pages without having to sift through nasty, snarky side arguments and comments. There have been many times in the past few years that i have just clicked out of a thread because trying to find comments on topic can be like finding a needle in a haystack. And there are times i want to comment on things but after being jumped on for my opinion a few times I post less, read and often just shake my head. In the beginning I felt welcomed here. I learned a lot about theatre in general from the people who posted back then. It has changed. We always prided ourselves for being more civil that the other chat board but it has gotten almost as bad.  JMO

Also, I still have yet to see CAROUSEL

It's been said a million times before but - any director who thinks they know how to write better than their writer(s), ought to just write their own piece. O'Brian's actions here are the sort of thing every writer with any self-confidence and integrity abhors.

This has probably been answered over the years here, but who allows these directors to make these changes to original properties?

I was so excited about this revival and will still try to see it but these changes will be in the back of my mind. Also what kind of upsets me is that i don't know the stage version and was hoping to see this classic intact.

Same applies to writers who think they can direct better than directors.

The estates of the writers - sometimes their progeny, sometimes not. Most of them will OK almost anything, if the potential profit is sufficiently significant. There's no such thing as a person who thinks they are "rich enough."

I forgot to mention estates when I posted.
